Mayme Schnell

Mayme F. Schnell, age 80, Fargo, passed away from cancer on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, surrounded by her family at the MeritCare Palliative Care Center, Fargo. Mayme Kuemper was born January 15, 1924, in Ivanhoe, MN, to Leo and Nellie (Groen) Kuemper. She grew up in Hankinson, ND, and graduated from St. Francis Academy. Mayme married Arnold Schnell on January 10, 1944, and together they raised 10 children. Many of her children?s friends still remember Mayme for the great baking and cooking as she always welcomed them into her home. She loved embroidering dish towels and making quilts. All her children and grandchildren have a quilt and set of dish towels to cherish. The flower beds she created were beautiful. Her daughters wish they could grow flowers as well as she could. Mayme especially enjoyed going for country drives with Arnold. A favorite memory for us was hearing Mom whistling to country western music. Mayme?s fondest wish was to celebrate her 80th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary in January. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Mayme is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arnold; two sons: Arnie (Sharon) Schnell, Enderlin, ND, and Roger Schnell, Waubon, MN; eight daughters: Kathy (Gerald) MacAllister, Seattle, WA, Gloria Jean (Tom) Robey, Lidgerwood, ND, Bonnie (Allen) Prochnow, Wahpeton, ND, Barbara (Dale) Hartleben, Fargo, ND, Reyne Houck, Del City, OK, Sandy (Don) Hejtmanek, Kindred, ND, Gail (Mearl) Nelson, Glenfield, ND, Sherry (Marlin) Helmer, Lidgerwood, ND; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Vernon (Donna) Kuemper, Fargo, ND; a sister, Lucille Thurman, Benton City, WA; and a sister-in-law, Delores Kuemper, Anoka, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Garrit Kuemper, Bernard Kuemper, and Elmer Kuemper. Funeral Service: 10:00 am Monday, April 5, 2004 at St. Maurice?s Catholic Church, Kindred, ND. Vigil Service: 7:00 pm Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel. Visitation: 5:30-7 pm Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel and one hour before services at the church. Private interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Hankinson, ND.
