Maynard W. Schanilec, 73, was called home to heaven on Friday, February 20, 2009, at Triumph Hospital in Fargo. Maynard Schanilec was born to William and Alyce (Griecar) Schanilec on August 13, 1935 in Pisek, ND. He graduated from Pisek High School in 1954 and entered the Army in 1955. He was discharged in 1957 and began working at Grafton Paint and Glass and then moved to Grand Forks, ND. Maynard was married to Eleanor Thorsen and together they had two children. He graduated from UND in 1962 with a B.S. degree and moved to Minneapolis, MN to work for Phillips 66. After 2 ? years he joined Amoco Oil in 1964 and worked in various cities until retiring in 1994. He was married to Beverly Walter from 1969 until her death in 2003. In 2007 he married Sharon Hilber and moved to their hobby farm in Rollag near Hawley, MN. Maynard welcomed his new family with open heart and arms. His smile was from ear to ear. He will be greatly missed. Some of his many activities include fishing, hunting traveling and spending time at the lake. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and a life member of the DAV. He was an active volunteer at his church and at the MeritCare Friendly Visitor Program. In retirement he drove the courtesy van for Luther Family Ford and managed a small business from his home. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, Hawley; son Marc Schanilec, Grand Forks, daughter, Jane Marinelli, Vista, CA; stepdaughters, Stephanie Kautzman (Patrick), Fargo, Jennifer Johnson (Brett) Grand Forks, sisters; Mary Prondizinske, Grafton, ND, Judy Beiswanger (Lyle), Grand Forks, ND, Sandra Grossback (David) Mazeppa, MN; grandchildren, Kelly-Lynn Kennedy,Grand Forks, ND; Brittney Kennedy, Salt Lake City, UT; Sarah Kennedy, Vista, CA, Canon Hilber, Logen Hilber, Jacob Kautzman, Abby Kautzman, Ellery Kautzman, Fargo, and Amanda Oberg, Kaylie Johnson, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his father, William mother, Alyce, wife, Beverly and his stepson and friend Geoffrey Hilber. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to: The Geoff Hilber Memorial Fund c/o Starion Financial or Pathfinders at Nativity c/o The Fargo Catholic School Network The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nativity, Fargo. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Boulger Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday in the funeral home and one hour before the funeral in the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross North Fargo.
