Maynard H. Simonson, 89 of Hillsboro, ND, died Friday, June 8, 2007 in Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, Hillsboro. Maynard Simonson was born February 25, 1918, the son of Ole and Mattie (Skillebeck) Simonson in Norway Lake Township, Wells County North Dakota. Maynard grew up and attended school in this area. He was united in marriage to Florence Nordgaard on October 19, 1941 at the Eden Lutheran Church near Bremen, North Dakota. Together they farmed in Wells County, North Dakota until they bought a farm east of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota in 1947. Maynard?s first job as a steeplejack was to goldleaf the cross on the Catholic Church in Fargo. He did this type of work for four years in different states, until he started moving, remodeling and painting buildings. He built the sales ring at Four Corners in Minnesota, except for putting in the scale. He also harvested ice in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and worked for the city of Grandin, North Dakota. Maynard lived in Minnesota until July 1965 when they moved back to North Dakota. He moved to Grandin in January 1984 and lived in an apartment in Hillsboro for a few years. Maynard then entered the Hillsboro Nursing Home and lived there until his death. Maynard is survived by his children, Elenora (Cecil) Adams; Jerry (Kathy Chase) both of Detroit Lakes: Larry of Hillsboro: Judy Nyberg and Manley both of Fargo. A sister, Blanche Bjertness, New Rockford ND and 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence a daughter Shirley, a sister, Opal and two granddaughters, Wannita and DeeAnn. Funeral Service: Tuesday, June 12th, 11:00 A.M.
