Melva Nelson

Melva ?Mel? Nelson, 80 of Walcott, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Villa Maria in Fargo. Melva was born on November 5, 1927 to Milton and Alyce (Ellenson) Oestrich on a farm near Walcott, ND. Her family moved into Walcott when she was nine years old. She grew up and attended school in Walcott. Melva married Orin ?Bud? Nelson on ? where? They made their home in Walcott. The couple purchased the Bonanza Bar in Walcott, ND in 1958. Bud died in 1977. Mel continued to run the bar until 1993 and then sold the business. The name was changed to Snooty?s Bar and Grill and she continued to work there until 1995. She worked with her daughter at Julie?s Radio Ranch, Fargo, ND until her death. Mel was an avid reader and an excellent cook. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Richard and infant daughter, Barbara. She is survived by her children, Valerie Nelson (Ed Dustin) of San Diego, CA, Julie Cahoon (Delon) of Davenport, ND, Bruce Nelson of Walcott, ND, Kelly (Mark) Fowler of Moorhead, MN; sister, Alice Erickson of Alexandria, MN; brother, Milton (Janice) Oestrich, Jr. of Fargo, ND; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service: Monday, July 14 at 10:00 am at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service on Monday.
