Michael Buringrud
February 24, 1954 ~ November 29, 2014
Michael R. Buringrud, 60, of Gardner, ND died peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, after a courageous 17 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Michael was born February 24, 1954 to Nils and Elaine Buringrud of Gardner, ND. He retired in 1997 and enjoyed fishing, boating, attending dirt track races, watching NASCAR, tinkering on cars, and spending time with family. Michael was so excited about recently becoming a grandpa and truly enjoyed all the time he spent with his Dad and their many outings together.
Michael served on the North Cass Water Resource District Board since July 19, 1993, and became Chairman in 1999. He also served on the Cass County Joint Water Resource District Board since 1999. He took his work on water issues very seriously and his efforts provided benefits for people throughout the county and the region.
Michael is survived by his wife Eileen, Gardner, ND; children David, Jessica (Derek) Houim, and Steven, all of Fargo, ND; his grandson Jarrett Michael Houim; his father Nils Buringrud; sisters Wanda Hoffman, Marcia Buringrud; brothers Terry Buringrud, Jon Buringrud; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother Elaine Buringrud, and sister Marilyn Hein.
The family would like to thank Fr. Casey, the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center, and Hospice of the RRV, especially Kelcie and Staci.

Dear Buringrud Family,
I hope you can find comfort in knowing that your dear Michael now sleeps, and will continue to do so until Jesus calls for “all” in the grave to come out. (John 5:28, 29 11:11, 43) They will awaken to the promised new world spoken of at 2 Peter 3:13. At that time, peace will abound and sickness and death will be done away with. David, I especially appreciated your entry in this Guest Book. I am sure your Dad was proud of you and I appreciate how you put your feelings for your Dad into words. Well done.
Just a note: Your Dad’s cousin, Dean, is my cousin as well. Also, my dad, Kenny Halvorson, used to play kitten-ball with your Grandpa Nils, Alfred and Einer. My Dad said that you always wanted the Buringrud boys on your side because with their long arms, they could cover the field just standing still.

I am so sorry to hear this loss. My dad died Nov. 5th, 2008 of Pancreatic Cancer stage 4 and I can really relate. I recognize the last name through a friend of whom I met in my working environment. I just wanted to send my you the whole family that you are all in my prayers. I am truly sorry for your loss, but I am thankful he is not in pain and suffering anymore.

Dad, where do I start. This is the hardest thing I have ever experienced. What a great dad you were. You and mom raised me very well and taught me hard work and never give up on my dreams. You guys supported my decision to buy my business and I am truly greatful I got your blessing. I saw how hard you worked to provide us with all we wanted even if it was tough on you guys at times when I was growing up.
I saw yours and grandpas relationship and I so hoped I could’ve had that with you when my life slowed down and we could just drive around and hang out together. I’m just crushed I didn’t get to spend more time with you but the time we did was so great. Working on my cars, keeping them going and you teaching me how to do all of it myself.
The hardest thing I’m going to miss is our talks about our racing. We could talk for hours Saturday morning and discuss what we did or what I’m going to try to do to make that car faster. You cheered us on good or bad nights. When I go for my phone to text or call you to tell you the newest part we bought or what trick thing I found will be the hardest. We shared our love for racing equally. We will honor you with a tribute scheme this year and I’m going to be so proud to see that car on the track.
Well until I see you again, I will keep your truck clean for you and help mom keep the farm going. I love you so much and wish I could talk to you again. Bye dad.

Dad, my heart and soul are broken. I will miss you so much. Even though we sometimes, (ok, a lot of times) had our own little differences of opinion, it was only because I am just like you. I am my fathers daughter, and there is nothing I would rather be. Keep looking down and watching over us! I promise, us kids will stay out of the hole and I will always follow the recipes to a “T”. You taught me well. I love you.
Michael will be missed by us…He was a wonderful person. May his family be in our prayers and thoughts.

I will miss you. I will remember all the times when my kids had seen you even over years and you’d of course tease them. But, then when I would turn around you’d give them a candy bar. Hey Eileen – I just found out tonight that Mike passed away. I was speaking with Chuck Sorvaag and he is the one who told me. Last summer I saw him @ Menards and he sounded like the MS was not bothering his feet like it had in past years. What a shock!!! remember the evening by Nodak when you bought a brand new TV and could not get in the trunk of your car. So what did we do to help a friend – We put in the back of our pick-up and hauled it to your home. What a fun time. If I remember right your kids were small – David I think was 10 years old. Mike was always a great person to visit with – very positive and enjoyed the farmstead. To live in the country. Well again I am very sad to hear this news. He was a great friend.
