Obituary

Millie was born on March 18, 1942 to Richard and Mamie Billings. She was born and grew up in Lakota, North Dakota.

After graduating high school, she moved to Fargo where she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital. During this time, she met Donald Bach. On September 4, 1965, they were married at St. Anthony’s of Padua in Fargo. They had two children: Laura and Michael. When the kids were young she stayed at home and eventually returned to work. After working various jobs, she found her passion in real estate. Millie joined Park Company Realtors in 1993 and over the next 23 years thoroughly enjoyed meeting and knowing her clients and helping them find their homes.

Even greater than her love of real estate, was the love she had for her family. She was proud of her son, Michael, and daughter, Laura along with her grandchildren Dylan, Emily, and Theya. She rarely missed the opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s activities.

Millie was exceptionally devoted to her faith. Through the years she participated in numerous bible studies, adoration, and attended daily mass. Her strong faith life allowed her to survive cancer for over seven years and brought her peace during difficult times.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, her brother George Billings, and sister Marge Ralston. She is survived by her children, Laura (Shane Alderman), Michael (Heather Stromquist) and grandchildren Dylan, Emily, and Theya. She is also survived by her sisters Carol Braniff and Barbra Deal along with brother-in-law David (Margot) Bach.

as part of the nativity family “forever” and knowing you mom just a long, she will be missed. i have always admired her courage in dealing with her cancer through the years…and her strong catholic faith. it will seem strange not to see her as a communion minister when we get back from arizona. we wish we could be with you to celebrate her life. she was such a remarkable woman…our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Mike, Laura, Shane, Heather, Dylan, Emily, and Theya,

I am so sorry for your loss of your mother and grandmother. I remember her as Mrs. Bach from grade school at Nativity when I was in Mike’s class. Later in my life she became Millie. She was our real estate agent as I looked for a home with my new husband. When we looked at houses she always asked if we would still be able to “go out for pizza once in awhile” if we bought the house so we did not to take on too much debt. We are still in the house for almost 20 years.. At church Millie always asked about the kids and my mom and dad. We will miss visiting with her. She was a great lady.

  4. Jolene & Chris Garty says:

Millie was our wonderful neighbor on 6th Street for six years. She was such a kind person. We always enjoyed talking with her in the yard while she was outside gardening. She had a beautiful garden. The highlight of the spring was waiting for her tulips to bloom. Her smile will be missed. She gave our daughter Grace a teddy bear with a flower pattern on it. It’s still one of Grace’s favorite toys.

Dear Laura, Shane, Mike, Heather and Grandchildren: I’ve known your dear loved one for a very long time. First of all we were back door neighbors for 25 yrs., shared in our love for Nativity Church and then we ended up working for the same real estate company. When health issues forced me to retire, she took over my clients and helped me tremendously with the transition. When I think of Millie I immediately think of her wonderful, infectious, bubbly laugh and her courage these past seven yrs., rarely complaining about her condition, always putting a positive spin on things. She was a remarkable woman and will be so missed. God bless you Millie and your family.

I had the great opportunity to work with Millie at Park Co for five years. My desk was next to hers, so there was rarely a day we didn’t get a chance to chat. She was always positive and had that beautiful smile on her face. She is a great example of how to live the best life possible…completely unselfish and dedicated to serving her Lord. I am so sorry for your loss…she took great pride in her family and I know you’ll miss her greatly.

  20. Maggie McCalip says:

    Michael and Laura,

Your mom was so dear to me. We became friends at Moorhead State University. I sat next to her in every class I could. Her hard work helped me develop discipline in my own study habits. Over the years we stayed connected, and I loved it when I ran into her at daily mass. Your entirely family will be in my prayers. As a tribute to her memory, a donation has been sent to Nativity. Wishing you peace during this sorrowful time.

    Sincerely,
    Maggie (McCarthy) McCalip

Dear family of Millie. She was such a wonderful kind gentle lady. I remember seeing and visiting with her at Nativity Church and sometimes we were together in Adoration Chapel. What I surely recall are the Christmas photo cards she sent surrounded by grandchildren. Peace. Prayers.
