Miriam Ruddy

Miriam E. Ruddy was born on July 15, 1932 in Devils Lake, ND. Her family moved to Fargo, ND when Miriam was 10 years old. Miriam attended St. Anthony?s School and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1950. Miriam enrolled at Moorhead State College, but after a few weeks, decided that academia wasn?t for her. However, she graciously agreed to stay on for the remainder of the year as the ?unofficial social director? in the Student Union coffee shop. Miriam?s unique ability to connect with people also drove Miriam?s rich and varied career. She started as a dental assistant in Fargo, and then was a secretary to the Teamster?s Union in Grand Forks, ND where she met and married her husband of 49 years, Patrick, who owned Duffy?s Tavern in Grand Forks. After selling that tavern in 1967, Pat and Miriam built a new Duffy?s Lounge in Fargo, which they owned and operated until 2006. Miriam was affectionately known as ?Miss Daisy? and her driver was Jerry Schatz, their bar-manager for several years. Miriam and Pat also enjoyed their special time each summer at Turtle Lake, MN where they were hosts to countless visits from relatives and friends. They loved taking quests on their ?Fun Boat?, where they experienced many memorable excursions. Miriam will be remembered for her generous heart and outrageous sense of humor which continually delighted her friends and family. She was especially close to her many nieces and nephews. Miriam is survived by her brother Michael G. Lamb (Rosemary), her twin sister Monica Kuklenski, her sister Maura Jones and her 27 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Patrick, parents Michael and Esther Lamb and her brother Jude Lamb. The family appreciates the staff at Eventide Homes in Moorhead and the gracious, end of life care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2007 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at St. Anthony?s Church in Fargo. Interment will be at Holy Cross North, Fargo. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Presentation Sisters, and St. Anthony?s Church. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
