Monica Barfuss

Monica (Duval) Barfuss, 89, of Fargo, died Friday, April 28, 2006 in her daughter?s home in Mapleton, ND under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Monica was born to Mederic and Mabel (Poirier) Duval on March 12, 1917 in Belfield, ND. At 1 ? years of age, after the death of her mother in 1918, she was brought to the Fargo area and was cared for by her paternal grandparents, Ferdinand and Eugenie (Sauvageau) Duval on their farm in St. Benedict, ND. Here she attended grade school. From 1938-1947 she was employed with Armours Meat Packing plant in West Fargo. She married Vernon F. Barfuss on February 15, 1947 at St. Anthony?s Catholic Church in Fargo. They resided in north Fargo where they raised their family. Monica was a caring homemaker and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and fishing and was a life long member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon in 1983; a daughter, Sheryl in 1950; a grandson, Daniel in 1980; a great granddaughter, Dakota in 2005; two brothers, Bernard in 1972 and Leo in 1991 and her sister, Maxine Jones Nelson in 2002. Monica is survived by two sons, Russell of Harris, MN, David (Lita) of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Julie (Jeff) Sauvageau of Fargo, Tammi Roush of Mapleton, ND; two brothers, Maurice Duval of Fargo, Robert (Geri) Duval of Arden Hills, MN; sister, Marianne (Gary) Furch of Forest Lake, MN; 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Visitation: Tuesday, May 2 from 5-8 pm at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Prayer Service: Tuesday, May 2, 7:00 pm with Rosary following. Funeral Mass: Wednesday, May 3, 2:00 pm at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Burial: Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
