The Funeral Service for Myrtle Elton will be held 2PM Monday, May 19, 2003, at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 - 4 PM with a prayer service at 3 PM at Wildeman Funeral Home. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro. Myrtle died on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 91. Myrtle Eleanor Olson was born on December 9, 1911, in Eldorado Township, Hillsboro, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Ole and Johanna (Evenson) Olson. She was baptized at the rural St. Olaf Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Arnold Elton of Hillsboro on September 5, 1948. Myrtle worked at various jobs in the Hillsboro area. She did custom baking and was especially known for her wedding cakes and Norwegian pastries. She cooked at the Viking Hotel for ten years, was assistant cook at the Hillsboro High School for two years, and was a nurse?s aide at the Hillsboro Nursing Home until she retired at age 75. During World War II she worked at the Ammunition Depot at Hasting, Nebraska. Her main hobby was to raise and sell raspberries which was her pride and joy. She also liked to knit and crochet beautiful afghans and doilies. She was a member of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and Circle. She has sung in the choir for many years, accompanied group singing, and was chairman of many church suppers. She was a lifetime member of Sons of Norway, and had been their accompanist for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia (Steve) Kalliokoski; two grandchildren, Alex and Anna Mae; all of Niche, North Dakota; two sisters, Selma "Sally" Dullum of Hillsboro; and Hazel Berve of Harvey, North Dakota; sisters in law, Cecilia "Nippy" Nelson of Hillsboro; Mildred Olson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and Arlene Olson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Arnold; her parents; three brothers, Harry, Leonard, and Edmund Olson; and two sisters, Lilly Haugerud and Orrel Schlichtmann.
