Nancy Lee Crooks, 81, was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus on February 4, 2021. In her later years she had been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease. She died peacefully in the arms of her husband Lynn and daughter Lori in her home.
She was born on October 4, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI to Alma and Oscar Koehler. She graduated from Milwaukee North High School. Nancy graduated form Munt Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Nancy married Howard Ponik on August 6, 1960 and they were blessed with 2 children, Mark, and Lori. Following Howard’s death, she met and married Lynn Crooks on June 29, 1974.
Nancy had a passion for labor and delivery nursing. She worked as an RN at St. John’s Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital and Luther Hall. She enjoyed her work as a psychiatric nurse at St. Ansgar’s Hospital. For many years she loved teaching Lamaze and infant massage for Sanford Health. She truly enjoyed her time as a parish nurse.
Nancy accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and her faith provided her with a strong foundation. She was happy to share her beliefs with others. Nancy was always active in her church and truly enjoyed attending Hope Lutheran. She loved participating in BSF Bible studies.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother (Nana). She had unique and outspoken personality. She had a very strong values and was known to stick to her guns. She will be remembered for her gentle smile, patient disposition, and kind heart toward all. She loved relaxing on the pontoon boat on Otter Tail Lake and playing tennis with family and friends. She was a loyal follower of her grandchildren’s various sporting events and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She was a gifted seamstress, quilter, and knitter. She was a fabulous cook and baker who owned over 200 cookbooks.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Howard, her grandson Louis West, her son Mark, and her sister Karen.
Nancy is survived by her husband Lynn; her daughter Lori (Dan) Traiser of Fergus Falls, MN; her three grandchildren, Kristin Traiser of Bloomington, MN, Jenna Traiser of Fargo, ND and Erik Traiser of Moorhead, MN; daughter-in-law Sharon Ponik of Fargo, ND; brother Richard Koehler of Wauwatosa, WI; brother-in-law Richard Crooks of Hankinson, ND; sister-in-laws Joan Crooks of Pingree, ID, Cindy Crooks of Hankinson, ND, and Mary (Dave) Kluge of Hankinson, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the gracious staff of Hospice and the wonderful caregivers from Comfort Keepers.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo. The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Hope Lutheran Church-North Campus in Fargo. Everyone is welcome to attend the services. For those unable, both services will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Burial will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo.
