Orville E. Meyer, age 79, of Grandin, North Dakota, died on Saturday, December 6th , 2003 in his home under the care of Hospice. Orville E. Meyer was born June 27, 1924 near Twin Valley, MN. He was the son of George and Maude (Wheeler) Meyer. He grew up on a farm near Ogema, MN and attended schools in Becker County, MN. He served in the Army during WWII, stationed in Korea. Orville was united in marriage to Muriel Stende at Aspelund Lutheran Church near Flom, Minnesota in 1946. They lived in Fargo, ND, where he worked at the Post Office. Orville graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo. The couple moved to Grandin, ND where he worked as the bookkeeper for the Grandin Elevator Company. Later he became manager of the Grandin Hi-Way Service, a position he held for 32 years. After semi-retiring he became the bookkeeper for the Lockhart Elevator and later worked for the Stop & Shop in Grandin. Orville was instrumental in starting the Grandin Civic Club and served as it?s first president. He was a charter member of the Grandin Fire Department. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, as well as treasurer and an Elder of the Church for almost thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Muriel; three sons, Terry (Dolly), Wendel (Marcia) and Bradley (Bonnie) all of Fargo, ND; seven grand daughters; two step- grandsons; and two great- grandsons and three great - granddaughters. Orville is also survived by a sister, Leora Skarie of Fargo and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. Visitation: Tuesday 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Grandin, ND Funeral: Wednesday 10:00 a.m. Grace Lutheran Church, Grandin, ND.
