Orville M. Trom, West Fargo, died Tuesday, August 24th under the exceptional care of Merit Care palliative care unit, Fargo, ND. Orville was born to Oscar and Louise (Forseth) Trom in Woods, ND, November 18th, 1921. He graduated from Davenport High School and continued to live in the area the greater part of his life. Orville was an active part of the community working as a mechanic and then farming. He served as sheriff, mayor, the Davenport Fire Department and on the Addison Township Board. Orville married his beloved Betty Cockerill on December 16th, 1944. To this union two children were born, Dianne and Douglas. Orville loved life whether working on aircraft in Ohio or playing baseball through his younger years to fishing, hunting, spending time in Texas and Arizona and his happiest place, the lake home. He always had a project going, some finished, some not, but in the end gave directions where certain things are or were. The family wants to give special thanks to Kathy and Dave Johnson, and Bob and Ruth Geske, neighbors who made it possible for Orville to enjoy his time at the lakes. Orville was a loving husband, a good father, a wonderful grandfather, a cherished brother, and uncle Ordy to his many nieces and nephews. Orville is survived by Betty, his beloved wife of 65 years, his children, Dianne (Dick) Hanson, grandchildren: Liann Hanson (husband, Marty Williams), Jessica Hanson (husband, Damion Rassier), and Jana Hanson; His son Doug (Melissa) Trom, grandchildren: Paula (Dave) Sherbrooke, Ryan (Jackie) Trom, Jon Peterson, Kristin (Jason) Nelson, Adam (Corrie) Peterson; 6 great grand children; sisters Beverly (Lowell) Simenson, Geraldine (William) Lechner; special cousin George (Dorie) Trom; brother and sister in-laws: Robert and Margie Cockerill, Jude and Helen Cockerill, Phyllis Stuckle, Peggy Cockerill, Lynn Nelson, and Marlene Aas; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews Orville was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dick Trom, brother in-law Dean Cockerill, brother in-law Irv Stuckle and sister in-law Nancy Nelson. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may give memorials to Davenport Lutheran Church, Davenport Cemetery, or the City of Davenport Ice Skating Rink Visitation: Thursday, August 27th, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, N.D. Funeral: Friday, August 28th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M at Davenport Lutheran, Davenport, N.D. Interment: Davenport Cemetery, rural Davenport, N.D.
