Oscar Kallestad

Oscar Kallestad, formerly of Fargo, ND, died Monday, December 25, 2006 in Valencia, CA. Oscar Carlyle Kallestad was born in Howard, SD, on January 30, 1916, the son of Martin and Martha (Frojen) Kallestad. They moved to a home south of Leith, ND. He attended Valley View School, a country school south of Leith. Following his schooling, he farmed with his parents. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937, and returned in 1939. He later worked in Belton, Montana. He married Marion Johnson in Elgin, ND on December 31, 1943. They lived and farmed in that area until 1955 when they moved to Fargo. . In 1960 he began working for the Fargo Civic Auditorium as custodian, later was foreman of building and grounds. He retired in 1983 and in 2003 Oscar moved to California. Oscar and Marion were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in February 2006 and a brother, Melvin. He is survived by his 4 sons, Jim, Jerry (Jean), both Fargo, ND, Jeff (Kathie), Valencia, CA, and Paul, Fargo, ND; 2 grandchildren, Jonathan and Cristopher; and his sister, Krystal Schaible, Breckenridge, MN.
