Perry D. Trowbridge, 78 of Barnesville, died in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, on Wednesday. Perry Trowbridge was born in Fargo, ND on January 17, 1928, the son of Hugh and Delia (Askegaard) Trowbridge, and grew up in Comstock, MN. Perry graduated from Comstock High School in 1945. He entered the Navy upon graduation, serving on a destroyer on the west coast when World War II ended. Returning home, he attended NDAC, currently NDSU, and started farming with his father. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture in 1950 and continued to farm with his father and later two brothers in law. He married Mary Marquart, November 10, 1956, in St. Mary?s Cathedral, Fargo, ND. They made their home on the family farm near Comstock where they raised eight children. Perry worked for USAID as an Agricultural Advisor in Vietnam 1966-1968 and was in Saigon during the TET offensive. He continued to farm until he retired in 1991. Perry was a lifetime member of Clay County Farm Bureau, member of the Comstock Lions, and the American Legion Post #153. He drove truck for Turner Sand and Gravel and school bus for the Barnesville Bus Company until 2005. Perry is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Delia, sister Marion Anderson, and son Neil. He is survived by his wife, Mary, Barnesville; daughter, Ceil (Chris) McDonald; St. Paul, MN; sons, Hugh, Comstock, MN; Matt (Jeanne), Rockford, IL; Joel (Janine), Moorhead, MN; Steven (Pam), Moorhead, MN; Philip (Randi), Barnesville, MN; Tom (Heather), Detroit Lakes, MN; sisters, Margaret Gunderson, Boring, OR; and Virginia (Arlan) Stangland, Pelican Rapids, MN; 13 grandchildren, cousin, Delia Shulstad, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be give to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Barnesville Dollars for Scholars.
