Philip Gene Woodard (“Woody”) was born on April 8, 1942 to Leonard H. & Minnie C. (Schultz) Woodard in Wadena, Minnesota. In 1956 he confirmed his faith in Christ in the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Bertha-Hewitt, Minnesota High School in 1960. He attended St. Cloud Technical & Community College in St. Cloud, MN for two years for a degree in carpentry. In 1963 Woody enlisted in the Air Force and attended basic training in Lackland, Texas. While in the service Woody was trained for air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance and repair. Following his honorable discharge on November 7, 1968 Woody continued to live in California, acquiring a job at a tree nursery in Yuba City and eventually settling in San Leandro. Woody was a self-taught mechanic and worked as a diesel repairman for Peniston Transportation from 1988 to 2006. He also worked for East Bay Roll-off in the San Fransico bay area as a mechanic for about 7 years. Woody retired in 2007 after suffering a stroke. In 2010 Woody moved to Fargo, North Dakota, with the desire to get his driver’s license and acquire a pick up truck again, thinking he had a good chance to do so in North Dakota. Even though that desire never materialized Woody made many friends during his residence in ND where he resided until his death. He enjoyed visiting with people and telling jokes. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Piedmont, California and Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo. Woody is survived by his cousins and preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harris. Woody’s ashes will be interred at Woodland Cemetery in Washburn, Wisconsin along with his parents and brother. Woody’s funeral will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND on Saturday, February 27th @ 11 am and will be live streamed on YouTube.
