Obituary

Phyllis Irene Cossette of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at her home in Edgewood Vista on    Saturday, March 5th 2011, at the age of 78.

Phyllis was born Sept 7th, 1932 and grew up on the family farm in Davenport, ND, with her parents, Milton and Edna Hans, and her brother Leland.  Phyllis was a graduate of Fargo Central High School in 1950.  She loved to learn and continue her education by attending college at NDSU.  While at NDSU she was a member of the Gold Star Marching Band.  In 1952 she was crowned Homecoming Queen.  Phyllis continued her education obtaining a degree from Moorhead Teaching College (MSU) and then earned a Medical Technology degree from St. Luke’s Hospital.  In her 50’s, Phyllis returned to MSU to gain an accounting degree.

Phyllis married Ivan “Bud” Cossette on May 18, 1957, and soon after they built their home of 50 years in Wild Rice, ND, where they raised their family.  Phyllis was a nature lover, avid gardener, enjoyed canning and preserving, snow skiing, travel, music, and winters in the southern United States in their motor home.

Phyllis had many friends in the area, was very active at St. Benedicts Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being an active member of the Ladies Guild.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Ivan “Bud”, children Paul (Suzanne), Julie (Alex Mejia), Gary, Diane, Jim (Kristin), Mike, Tom, and David, and grandchildren Josh Skyberg, Justin Skyberg, John, Grayce Darrah, Mark, Cody, Taylor, and Brayden.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and friend to us all. We will miss her.

    Denver CODear Bud,
I am so sorry to hear about Phyllis. I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I am thinking how fortunate you were that you had her in your life for so many years and have such a wonderful family because of her.
I have to admit sometimes I think of how I used to drive you crazy when I worked for you and I smile when I hear your voice saying to me that I was almost going to drive you to drink again. I am thankful for those memories. I am also glad I never got you too crazy.
I will keep you in my thoughts.
    love, Marna

    Dear Bud and Family,

We were saddened to hear of passing of Phyllis. We could not make it into Fargo yesterday for the funeral but we wanted to tell you what a wonderful person we thought she was. She was always so much fun and what a conversationalist! We loved to visit with her. What a bright interesting lady. We had so much fun on all those Standard Oil trips we went on with both of you. Very good memories.

We send you our Love, Sympathy, and Prayers.

I have wonderful memories of my childhood living near Bud & Phyllis and the Cossette Family. I remember Phyllis would call and let me know whenever the raspberries in her garden were ripe. She would invite me over for “berry-picking”, but she knew that bucket would never get full because those berries went straight from the bush to my mouth 🙂 She never minded, and kept inviting me over and over again. She loved her kids so much, and was so great to us neighbor kids, too. Thanks for sharing her with us. She’ll always be a part of my childhood, and she is fondly remembered.
