Obituary

Phyllis Lorraine Hildreth died January 27, 2011 at Rosewood on Broadway at the age of 86.

Phyllis was born January 29, 1924 in Argusville, North Dakota to Guy and Bessie Hildreth.  She graduated from Argusville High School in 1942 where she was an outstanding athlete setting a basketball record which stood for many years and was eventually broken by a Hildreth relative.  After graduation she and her future sister-in-law, Dorothy Hildreth, went to work at Swan Island Shipyards in Portland, Oregon for the war effort.  After a year, they returned to Argusville for a short time and then Phyllis went to Salinas, California to visit friends.  While there, she met and fell in love with Kenneth Goodyear and on June 6, 1944 they were married in Salinas, California.  After the war, they returned to Argusville and then settled in Fargo when Ken secured employment with the newly formed North Dakota Air National Guard.  Phyllis raised three boys and also worked for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital for many years in various capacities retiring in 1984.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Kenneth Jr. (Jan), John (Char), James (Marcia); five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, brothers Henry, Ralph, and John, a baby daughter, and a baby great-granddaughter.

    Dear Goodyear family,

Our deepest sympathy in the lose of your Mom. She was a nice lady and will be
    missed by many.

I got to know her when I did her hair at Rosewood from when she first came in
till March of last year. I always enjoyed
visiting with her and she always talked
    so highly about her family.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers
    during this difficult time.

Treasure the memories and the time
    you had her.

    God Bless

    Dear Corky and family,
My sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your mother.

I have fond memories of her when we were children and lived in the same neighborhood. We neighborhood girls would cruise the neighborhood on our bikes and she made the mistake of giving us cookes one time…..we therefore put her on the top of our visiting list! She was always so nice to us!

    To Phyllis Family,
We extend to you our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mom.
Phyllis was a cousin of mine, and I thought very highly of her.
I am a son of Charlie Muhs, and we have a special picture of Charlie and Bessie, Phyllis Mom, when they were just a few years old.
A Memorial to Phyllis will be sent to the Jamestown Hospital Hospice Fund.
May God bless you all as you say good by to your Mom.
    With sincere sympathy,
    Bob and Mary Muhs

I was not able to meet with Phyllis, but I have known one of her sons, Jamie, his wife Marcia, and their son, Casey for a couple of years, as they are our neighbors on South Lake Lida outside of Pelican Rapids, MN
. I know that Marcia’s mother is at Elim ursing Home facility in South Fargo where my mother is as well, so I see Marcia and her mother on occasion. The Goodyears’ are nice, caring and friendly people. If I ever need anything from a tool, help fixing something or help pulling a hook out of my finger, they are ALWAYS there for me. I must say, Phyliss raised a wonderful son, Jamie. I am glad I have known the Goodyear family. My thoughts and prayers to the survivors.
