Ray Schumacher died on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at MeritCare Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Fargo at the age of 79.

Reinhold Fredrich Schumacher was born on September 15, 1930, the son of Emmanuel and Ernestine (Walters) Schumacher in Egeland, ND.  His dad died when Ray was six years old.  Ray graduated from Egeland High School in 1948 and attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND for 2 years.  After his schooling he began working for REA in Halstad, MN. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War until his discharge in May of 1953.  After his service he returned to Fargo where he attended North Dakota State University for 2 ½ years. 

Ray was united in marriage to Marion Hausten on December 26, 1954.  They moved to Seattle and Ray worked as a design engineer for Boeing Aircraft Plant and later as a land surveyor for the City of Seattle.  They moved to Renton, WA and later moved to Fergus Falls, MN where he worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  He also worked for KBN Engineering in Grand Forks and Ulteig Engineers until he retired in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Marion of Fargo; his children, Debbie (David) Tarbell of Jamestown, ND; Ginger Anderson of Fargo; Wanda Lauinger of Fargo; Laurel (Joseph) Kelly of Fergus Falls, MN; and Terri (Dan) Elstad of Moorhead, MN; his fourteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Herbert; one sister, Evelyn Rose; and a son, David Schumacher.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday

Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo

Burial: Riverside Cemetery in Fargo

    Marion, I am very sorry for your loss. Ray was a fun guy to work with (most of the time) 🙂 Just remember he is no longer in pain and in a much happier place. Someday you will be re-united once again.

    Please accept my condolences in the passing of Ray.
    I was employed with Ulteig Enginners in the Bismarck office at the time Ray worked in the Fargo office.
    He will be remembered as a true field surveyor.
