Rev. Elwyn Nissen

Rev. Elwyn J.Nissen, 79, Moorhead, Minnesota, formerly of Kindred, North Dakota, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead. Elwyn Jerome Nissen, the son of William and Ruth (Knox) Nissen, was born on a farm near Sanish, North Dakota, on September 30, 1924. Elwyn attended a one-room country schoolhouse. He graduated form Van Hook High School in 1942, and from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota in 1947. The following year, he taught in the public school at Hunter, North Dakota. In September of 1948 he entered Luther Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota and graduated May 18, 1952. On August 5, 1950, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Aamodt of Cottonwood, Minnesota. Rev. Nissen served at many churches including Sherwood, Kindred, Leeds, Velva, Tolna all in North Dakota. Since his retirement he has served the Tri County Ministry of North Dakota and many interims and pulpit supply. He was active in many church conferences and synod committees. Rev. Nissen volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 40 years and including serving as Scout Master for many troops. He also was active in the Lions. Rev. Elwyn Nissen is survived by his wife Marilyn, his two sons, David (Stacy), New Brighton, MN and Dan (Cynthia), Wausau, WI, and one daughter Deborah (Rev. Dean) Johansen, Jacksonville, Florida, his brothers and sisters, Ira (June) Nissen Salem, OR, Betty (Mel) Johnson, Kenmare, ND, Nina (Dale) Uran, New Town, ND, Paul (Patsy)Nissen, Rock Springs, WY, and his grandchildren, Ashley, Jamie, and Joseph Nissen, and Leah, Aaron, Alicia and Andrew Johansen, and many nieces and nephews. Rev. Nissen is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ione Kerzman, and brother Merald Nissen. The funeral for Rev. Nissen will be Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 1:30pm at the Kindred Lutheran Church, Kindred, North Dakota. Burial will follow the service at Kindred Cemetery, Kindred North Dakota.
