Richard (Dick) H. Johnson, 85, of Fargo N.D. died Thursday October 30, 2014 at Bethany at 42nd surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years   Opal. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Mabel Johnson, special sister in law Marjorie and great grandson Andy Geng.

Dick started his career at Northrup aircraft in Torrance, California where he was inspector for canopies in aircrafts. They lived there for 5 years. From there he moved his family moved back to Minneapolis and worked at Anderson Automatic machine shop. Family trips were regularly made to his parent’s farm at Deer Creek, MN and the cabin on Fish Trap Lake. Dick loved to hunt & fish; passing his passion for both down to his kids and grandkids.  In 1976, the family moved to Fergus Falls working as Quality Control Inspector at King Machine, Inc. This wonderful community offered many opportunities for hunting & fishing and the wonderful chance to watch his kids & grandkids grow in Otter sports. His love for the hockey rink was as strong as his passion for the baseball field. Retiring in 1991, Dick needed to stay busy and started mowing for the city of Fergus Falls at the airport. In the winter months he ran a tight ship for Tim at the “Little Red Barn”. Dick also had the chance to spend one summer as grounds keeper at the YMCA Camp Cormorant, youth summer camp. Dick’s last adventure was driving for Quality Toyota as a courtesy driver; which fit his personality as Dick loved to visit. Dick & Opal moved to Fargo, ND the fall of 2013.

We just learned of Dick’s passing and wanted to share our condolences to Opal and the family. When we think of hockey games I don’t know that we ever watched one in FF without Dick and Opal’s presence. I always looked forward to a hug from Dick at Jake and Megan’s games! What a great guy – he will be missed. We are thinking of you.
