Obituary

Richard (Dick) Severson, 87, of Fargo passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital surrounded by his loving family on March 25, 2014.

Dick was born on April 5, 1926 to Henry and Paula Severson and grew up in Fargo.  He joined the Navy at age 17 and served his country in combat in the South Pacific during World War II.  He married his sweetheart Anne Nelson on June 8, 1953 and during his 60 years of marriage, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He took great pride in caring for and raising his children Rick, Ronda, David, Scott, Robert, and Beth.

Dick learned the printing trade after the war, initially working for Richtman’s Printing, and then for the Fargo Forum for 35 years until his retirement in 1990.

Dick loved spending time with his children and grandchildren throughout his life.  He loved playing golf from his caddying days as a boy, and he shared his love of the sport with all of his family.  He was also a proud veteran and recently joined an Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. with his daughter Ronda.

Dick is survived by his wife Anne, his children Rick (Patsy) Severson, El Paso, TX, Ronda Severson, Fargo, David Severson, Minneapolis, Scott (Jill) Severson, West Fargo, Robert (Mary) Severson, Fargo, Beth Severson, Arlington, TX, and 13  grandchildren.

Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.

Just found out that Dick had passed away.
So sad to hear of your loss.
I cherish my 22nd Street memories, growing up next door, and Dick will always be a part of those memories.
I’m sorry, I would have certainly been there to celebrate and honor Dick’s life, had I known.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Goodbye “old friend”. Our Forum careers were better because of our friendship! I always enjoyed working with you.

If the obituary had been in the paper earlier I would have been there to say goodbye.

Rick & family, sorry to hear about your loss. We did not know him well but certainly got to know some great “Jefferson” kids that he raised! I see he was 10 years older than my dad Andy, It was a great generation. You were lucky to have him so long! We only have one Dad and I know you all have some great memories! We will miss the service, but I will touch base later Rick. Brad Wimmer

Fargo I was really saddened to read of Dick’s passing. He was at The Forum when I started working there, and he was always so nice to me.

You know how he had that great smile. Plus, he’d always have a nice greeting.

    A super guy.

I’m unable to attend the services for him due to a previous commitment. But I’d certainly like to, out of respct to him and you, his family.

May the Lord give you comfort in the days ahead.
