Obituary

Robert A. Cowie
Fargo, North Dakota
Robert passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo at the age of 79.

Robert, known by most of his friends as Bob, was born on December 27, 1926, the second son of Anthony and Florence (Elgin) Cowie. He grew up and was educated in Fargo, North Dakota. Bob met and married Marion Enger who was his wife and partner for thirty years. He often referred to the state of North Dakota as ?God?s Country? and lived his whole life between Fargo, Moorhead, and Dilworth.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army from February 14, 1945 to December 2, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. After his military service he worked for Holsum Bakery in Fargo. He was subsequently employed by the Great Northern Railroad (later to be known as the Burlington Northern Railroad) where he worked for 33 years until he retired. During that time he was also a member of the Bartender?s Union, working (a double shift) in various establishments from Fargo to Dilworth. Bob proudly became a member of the Softball Hall of Fame, the VFW Honor Guard, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

His family was very important to Bob ? he was protective of his family members, especially his children. For many years he enjoyed cultivating a vegetable garden sharing the bounty with family and friends and canning the vegetables ? sharing them too. He was faithful to and loved by his friends.

Bob was preceded in death by Marion (Enger) Cowie and his son James Cowie.

Robert is survived by his children, Lana Adams of Denver, CO; Dale Cowie (Lockie Gregory) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Barbara (Randy) Neiberger of Northglenn CO; John Cowie of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is sorely missed by all of his family.
