Robert Hilber, age 83, Fargo, died Monday, August 30, 2004, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo. Robert James Hilber was born on September 19, 1920 to John and Anna Hilber in Fargo, ND. He grew up and attended school in Fargo, and upon his graduation from Central High School, he started working at a Standard Oil Station. He enlisted in the Navy on January 11, 1943. He married Kathleen Marie Thompson on September 11, 1942, in Seattle, WA. Upon his discharge, Bob returned to Fargo and purchased the Standard Oil Station he had worked at previously, naming it AHilber=s Standard Service@. At one point in his career, Bob was President of the Fargo-Moorhead Gasoline Dealers= Association. He retired from his station after 32 years in 1972. He then started working for the Fargo Housing Authority as the Maintenance Caretaker for New Horizon=s Manor. He also did maintenance work for U.S. Bank. Bob and Kathleen spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ where he was a dynamic part of the park activities. This included everything from acting to bingo and shuffleboard. Kathleen and Bob both enjoyed camping. Kathleen died on December 19, 2000. Bob was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and served terms as the State Commander and National Trustee. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Eagles Motor Patrol. Bob lived in Bethany Towers for a time before moving to Rosewood on Broadway in 2002. He is survived by his children: Gary Hilber (Robin), Columbus, IN, Michael Hilber (Julie), West Fargo, ND, Shari Cannon, Detroit Lakes, MN, Shannon Klein (Bob), Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Jack Hilber, Fargo, ND, Bert Hilber (Mitzi), Fargo, ND, and Betty Sobers, Simi Valley, CA. He is preceded in death by his wife; grandchildren: Garth Cannon, Brandi Parr, Justin Hilber; and siblings: Beatrice Tschida, Gertrude Anderson, and Richard Hilber. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements by Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
