Obituary

Bob passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at his home in Fargo at the age of 91.

Robert was born on March 24, 1925, the son of Martin and Theresia (Pratchner) Sherman in Fingal, ND. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in Fingal. At an early age, Bob began helping on the farm and worked there helping the farm continue while his older brothers were called into military service. Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Christianson on June 22, 1948. They made their home in Fingal until moving to Fargo in 1953 where they raised their family. He was well known for his number of years working at the Fargo Foundry as a Pattern Maker. In later years he worked for General Nutrition until his retirement.

Throughout the years Bob was a faithful devoted member of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo. He spent countless hours volunteering and sharing his talents in any way that he could. He was a meticulous craftsman and created several special projects for the church, many that can be seen today and at special holiday services. Bob displayed perfection in each and every project he did. He prayed the Rosary daily and was devoted to spending time at Adoration each week. He also had a passion for his model airplanes and his Gold Wing Motorcycle. Bob was very proud of all of his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Bob is survived by his children – Kathy Sherman of Fargo; Betty (Randy) Haugen of West Fargo, ND; Gary (Brandie) Sherman of Shelton, WA; and Jennifer (Jim) Guttu of Pembina, ND; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Glenn, and his siblings.

    Kathy, Betty, Gary, Jenny, and families;
    Saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a unique, talented person. I will always remember him as a quiet man, who appeared to feel a little uncomfortable around most people – unless he could talk about his passions like building model gas planes. I remember him helping me one night when I was running from my abusive husband; his quietness was very comforting that night. Your folks made their marriage work; I always admired that about them. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of transition.

    Kathy, Betty, Jenny and Gary. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. He was the sweetest man and I really liked that about him. I am so glad we could celebrate his 90th birthday last summer. He enjoyed a good life and I think he really liked his toys.

    To Bobs children I offer our deepest condolences. We had so many great, and memorable times with Bob and Joyce, amongst the fondest memories we have as a family. Although his passing is sad, and touched us deeply, we know he has moved on to a better place. He was kind, fun to be around, and will be in our prayers and memories. He will always be remembered

    I met Bob, and we became friends, about ten years ago because his adoration hour was immediately after mine. Such a kind, devout, soft-spoken man, and so devoted to his lovely Joyce. Rest in peace, dear Bob. My sympathy and prayers to his family.

I found this poem and it reminded me of BOB ; you can shed tears that he is gone or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back or you can open your eyes and see all he left. your heart can be empty because you can’t see him or you can be full of the love you shared. you can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesturday or you can be happy for tommarrow because of yesturday. you can remember him and only that he is gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind,be empty and turn your back or you can do what he would want smile open your eyes love and go on ! He will be missed but never forgotten!! from all the staff at mexi.
