Roland E. Ritter, 85, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, December 19, 2005 at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, Minnesota. Roland was born October 23, 1920 near Clyde, ND to Jacob and Margaret (Heimbecker) Ritter. Roland moved to a farm south of Cavalier and then later moved to a home in Crystal, ND. He graduated from Crystal High School in 1938. On June 7, 1942 He married Mary Hamilton at East Emmet Church in rural Newton, KS. He attended and graduated from Chicago Evangelistic Institute, now Vennard College in 1943, receiving a Bachelor of Sacred Literature and an Evangelistic Major. He graduated from Cascade College, Portland, OR, in 1948 receiving a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology, and from Drew University, Patterson, NJ in 1957 with a Bachelor of Divinity. They served Methodist churches in Lansford, ND, Starkweather, ND and Pembina, ND. In 1960, Roland changed professions because of a stroke. He became a US Customs Inspector in Pembina, ND, Winnipeg, and Cleveland, OH. They retired to Sebeka, MN in 1980 and moved to Moorhead in 2000. Roland has been at Eventide Nursing Home since 2002. Roland is survived by a son, Steven Dean (Karen Mayer), Moorhead, MN; a daughter, Jodi J. Ritter, Evansville, MN, a daughter-in-law, Gloria Ritter, Monterery, CA; and five grandchildren, Terra Lea (Jim Ervin), Peckskamp, Syracuse, NJ; Tad Peckskamp, US Navy, Naples, Italy; Tom Peckskamp, Fargo, ND, Janette (Jeremy) Kate, Monterey, CA and Bob Ritter, Jr, Monterery, CA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his son, Robert, his parents, his sisters, Lydiann, Ethel, and Grace; and his brothers Roy and Albert. Roland was blessed with a wonderful voice and he loved to sing, especially with his wife, Mary. He adored his children and grandchildren and they adored him. The size of his heart was bigger than him. He loved and served the Lord. A Memorial Service for Roland will be Thursday, December 22 at Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND at 2:00 pm.
