On Sunday, December 20, 2020, Ronald Rutherford Hall, husband, father, grandfather, passed away after a brief illness, at the age of 82. Ron was born July 17, 1938 in Duluth, MN to Howard and Margaret (Rutherford) Hall. Ron graduated from Duluth East Class of ‘57. He served in the United States Marine Corp and the Naval Reserves; receiving honorable discharges. He had a long career as an operations manager at Continental Food Service in Duluth and Fargo, ND. Ron loved bird dogs, raised English Setters, was an avid reader of history, and enjoyed many hunting and fishing adventures with his sons and close friends. Ron loved to reminisce about the good ol’ days and wanted to hear everyone’s stories, even though his years of traipsing through the woods had long since passed. He had a unique sense of humor and contagious laugh that will be missed by many. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Virda (Hobson) Hall, Detroit Lakes, MN, and his children, Daniel (Heidi Owens) Hall, Carlton, MN, Darren (Julie) Hall, Dresser, WI, Douglas Hall, Ankeny, IA, and Melodie (Arlin Oelfke) Hall, Detroit Lakes, MN. Ron will also be forever remembered by his 12 grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Hall, Heather (Matt) Opsahl, Jennifer (Brian) Prudhome, Savanna Hall, Katie (Sean) Weber, Jeff (Daisy) Stanek, Jeff Hall, Dillon Hall, Zach Hall, Sara Hall, Marissa Hall, Emily Oelfke, 18 great-grandchildren, and longtime special friends Barry Fewson and Jim Brown. A celebration of Ron’s life will be scheduled in Duluth on July 17, 2021. Details will be posted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Program https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ or K9s for Warriors https://www.k9sforwarriors.org/ways-give-k9s-warriors in Ron’s honor. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the medical staff at Sanford Health and extend a very special thank you to Lorna Ihle, PA-C. Bougler Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. May he walk an endless logging road filled with grouse….may he occupy a duck blind under cloudy skies filled with blue bills and mallards….may he find himself on a pristine lake where the walleye bite never ends. He will do these things remembered by a true friend that shared these experiences with him in life, a true friend who valued his friendship, and who was blessed by having known him.

  2. I could not be more grateful for a grandfather who gave me so many wonderful memories and a foundation on which to build a life full of underserved blessing. I hope to follow in his example, to pass on his legacy, though imperfect, to do everything I can to give my children every opportunity to have a life which surpasses my own! Grandpa, I love you and am forever thankful!
