Ron Hanson, 70, Harvey, ND died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.

Ron Hanson was born on November 13, 1943 to Gordy and Cleo (Anderson) Hanson in Alhambra, California. At the age of three, they moved to Montevideo, MN where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1963. Ron attended the Western School of Heavy Equipment in Weiser, Idaho. He worked in Texas for awhile. Ron returned home and met his wife to be, Kathy Koenen and they were married September 24, 1966. They raised three children. In the 1970’s Ron hired on with the Soo Line Railroad in Glenwood, MN as a car man. In 1980 the jobs were abolished there and he then went to Bismarck and worked for four years. After that he came to Harvey and worked until he retired in 2003 with 32 years of service with the Soo Line Railroad.

Fishing was Ron’s passion and he enjoyed spending time with his friends and his grandchildren. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. Ron had the opportunity to spend seven months in Missouri and he loved music there. He attended every jubilee while in Missouri. He loved old time music and loved to dance. Ron loved to socialize and make friends with everyone he met. He also loved tinkering with things.

Ron was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Wells Eagles Aerie 3080 both of Harvey.

Ron is survived by his wife, Kathy of Harvey; mother, Cleo Hanson of Glenwood, MN; children, Billie Jo (Eric) Jaeche of Brainerd, MN, Ron (Nancy) Hanson Jr. of Grand Forks, ND, Kelle Hanson of Mandan; grandchildren, Grant (Leah) Jaeche, Matthew Hanson, Hayley Jaeche, Heather Jaeche, Taylor Faul, Braedan Hanson; brothers, Robert (Sylvia) Hanson of Bloomington, MN, Gary (Joann) Hanson of Mountain Iron, MN; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dean and Brenda Koenen, Dennis and Ruth Koenen, DuWayne and Lavonne Koenen, Millie Koenen. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Gordy Hanson.
