Royce V. Harmon Jr., 59, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, formerly Fargo passed away Wednesday August, 10th in the Veterans Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Royce was born May 31, 1952 in Richmond, CA to Royce and Lydia (Juntunen) Harmon.  He grew up in the Richmond, CA where he graduated in 1971 from Richmond High School.  Shortly after his graduation the family moved to Fargo, ND.  Royce enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany where he served as a cook from 1972-1974.  He was honorably discharged and re-enlisted and served in the Army from 1975-1978.  After his second honorable discharge he returned to Fargo where he began working at NDSU as a custodian.  He later worked at the VA Hospital in Fargo.  He began a career with the VA Hospitals working in numerous cities including Sioux Falls, SD, Fresno, CA, Sheyenne, WY, Madison, WI, Cedar Rapids, IA, Leavenworth, KS, and Omaha, NE.  At the time of his death he was working in Harpers Ferry, WV for the US Park Service at the Civil War site.

He was always actively involved with the church wherever he lived.  He enjoyed traveling, working with youth, and cooking.

He is survived by his mother, Lydia Harmon, Moorhead, MN; three brothers; Thomas (Jane) Harmon, Fargo, ND, Gary (Patty) Harmon, Chanhassen, MN and Richard Harmon, St. Louis Park, MN.

Royce is preceded in death by his father, Royce, Sr.

    I was away on leave when I got the news. My sincere condolences.

    Royce was a fine man. We had the Outer Banks in common. He loved to visit the beaches there and we talked about how beautiful a place that part of North Carolina was. We also had similar veteran experiences in common as well. Royce had a good sense of humor and was always an upbeat guy. He was great fun to talk with and served his nation well. I will remember him fondly.

  2. Whenever I came across Royce in the Park, he always had a smile and often a joke or two to share. He will surely be missed in Harpers Ferry NHP.

    Royce will be missed. I was a co-worker of his at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (WV) the last few years and enjoyed working and talking with him. He will be sorely missed here at the park. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time of grief.

  18. HArpers Ferr WV So sorry for your loss. Royce will be sorely missed. I will always remember his smiling face and upbeat outlook on things. The one thing that we will always remember about Royce is that when our son Perry was so sick,he called everyone that he knew and had everyone praying for our son. He was such a part of our family in and outside the church, during our Christmas card exchange,he addressed PErry’s card to cousin Perry. He loved our children, especially our son Charlie, and they truly loved “Mr. Royce.” He was a true Christian brother and will be greatly missed by us all. His stories of his time of ministry to young people was always a joy to listen to, he had a great love for them and the ministry, which came directly from the heart of a Godly man. while it’s sad for those that are left behind, we rejoice in the fact that he is in the presence of the Lord whom he truly loved.
