Ruby M. Vangsness, 87, of Leonard, ND passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Ruby May Christmann was born to John and Hattie (Barfuss) Christmann on October 13, 1928 in Leonard. She grew up in Leonard and graduated from Leonard High School in 1946. On July 8, 1951, Ruby married Harlyn F. Vangsness and the couple moved to Fargo, ND where they raised their three children: Ginnette, Shelley, and Paul. Ruby worked various jobs while raising her family including Reed Cleaners, Model Laundry, and the Red Cross before retiring in 1978. She also found time for PTA, being a softball scorekeeper, playing croquet, fishing, canning and helping others. After Harlyn’s retirement, they moved to Leonard where they resided until death. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harlyn; daughter Ginnette; sisters: Lois Allen and June Thompson; brother, Gordon Christmann, and infant brother, David. She is survived by daughter Shelley Bock, Dilworth, MN; son, Paul Vangsness, Leonard; granddaughters: Trista (Steve) Blake, West Fargo, ND; Kyla Bock, Dilworth, Alysia (Luke) Taylor, Fargo; Siana Bock, Fargo; 6 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Merle (Mable) Christmann, Mesa, AZ. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00am, Friday, August 19, 2016 at New Hope Lutheran Church, Leonard, ND. VISITATION: 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a 7:00 Prayer Service Thursday, August 18 at Fredrikson-Boulger Funeral Chapel in Kindred. INTERMENT: Leonard Cemetery following funeral services.
