Sharon was born January 30, 1941 in Hugoton, KS to Kenneth and Goldie (Cobb) Betsworth. She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1959. She attended Emporia State Junior College where she earned a Secretarial Degree. She met William Barker and they were married on September 8, 1962 in Hugoton, KS. They lived in Emporia, KS while Bill was attending school and they eventually moved to Lawrence, KS where he completed his education. They moved to Fargo in 1968. Sharon worked in various clerical positions throughout the education community, including University of Kansas, NDSU, Catholic Schools Network and Catholic Family Services. She became a partner in her daughter’s childcare business and was “beloved Grandma Sharon” to many.

She absolutely loved to be active and involved in her children’s activities and through them she created lifelong friendships. Sharon was the nicest neighbor you could have. Even when she wasn’t feeling good she went out of her way to bring us food when she found out we were dealing with my father-in-law in the hospital. She and I would have the nicest chats! I will miss those but now she can be together again with Bill.
