Shirley Shoemaker

Shirley Shoemaker, age 77, died Monday, May 31, 2004 in Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, Hillsboro, ND. Shirley Ray was born June 6, 1926 in Grand Forks, ND to Wilson and Hildur Ray. She grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from high school there. After graduation she moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she worked for Sioux Bee Honey. She lived there for 12 years, then moved to Tucson, AZ where she worked as a retirement community manager. She married Orin Shoemaker in 1959 and they continued to live in Tucson. They moved to Hillsboro in 1997. Shirley was active in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Shirley was very friendly and enjoyed the community life in Hillsboro. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Russell and Robert Ray. She is survived by her husband, Orin of Hillsboro, ND; three daughters, Shureen Lewis, Saudi Arabia, Dawn (Gene) Hickson, Midlothian, Texas, and Roxanne (Paul Dean) Kartchner, Carlsbad, New Mexico; a stepson, Mike (Margie) Shoemaker, Denver, Colorado; stepdaughter, Diane (Don) Owens, Fairbanks, Alaska; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; her brothers, Gordon Ray and Wilson Ray Jr, both Grand Forks, ND.
