Sr. Mary T. Fenton

sr. mary t. fenton
Sister Mary Therese Fenton died April 7, 2017 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo. She was born in Ireland to Martin and Catherine (Houlihan) Fenton on August 13, 1935, the youngest of four children. At the age of 18 she traveled to the United States and entered the religious congregation of the Union of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fargo, ND where her aunts, Sisters Boneventure and Matilda Fenton had entered years before her. She professed vows in 1957 and would be professed 60 years this summer. While her ministry was primarily education with young children whom she loved dearly, another great love was storytelling. Her 42 years of teaching included St. Anthony’s, Holy Spirit and Nativity Catholic schools as well as New Rockford, Langdon, Sykeston in North Dakota, Portageville, MO, Milbank, SD and Crookston, MN. Her academic preparation was done at St. Benedict’s College in St. Joseph, MN and Gonzaga University, WA. Her parents, brother, Patrick and aunts preceded her in death. Sister Mary is survived by her brother James, Ireland; her sister, Ann (Tom) Bebbington, MA; nephew, Tom Bebbington, NH; and niece, Maura (Bebbington) Calusdian, NH.

  7. Sr. Mary T. (Pius Marie, at that time) was my beloved 1st and 2nd grade teacher at St. James School in New Rockford. All of her students loved her dearly. She was so kind and loving to all of us. She still holds a special place in my heart to this day. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. I was fortunate to reconnect with her years later and we had such fun recalling the old days at St. James. She was one of a kind…a jewel that I was so fortunate to have touched my life at such a young age. I will never forget her kindness and loving nature. Heartfelt sympathy to her family and Sisters of the Presentation.

  8. Sr. Mary Therese was my 1st grade teacher at St. Anthony’s in Fargo. She was a very kind teacher who also became my friend. From 1st grade thru 4th grade I would go to her classroom after school and washed her blackboards. I even stayed overnight at the convent!☺
RIP Sister….you were very special to me.

  9. Sister Mary T- May you have eternal peace and joy with our loving God. Sr. Mary T loved teaching and education and was very gifted too! She inspired children to learn and taught them by her witness of God’s love for them. Thanks for your ministry in the Church- well done good and faithful one. May Sr. Mary T’s legacy live on in Catholic education through those she ministered to throughout her wonderful career. I had the pleasure of working with her in Fargo and in Crookston MN. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. Fr. Tim Bushy
