Stacy Engel

Stacy Maria Engel, 35, Hillsboro, ND passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Hillsboro Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 24, 1978 to Ralph and Charlotte (Thompson) Engel in Hillsboro where she grew up and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1996.  Following graduation she attended Mayville State College. After two years of attendance, Stacy’s lifelong journey began. She was diagnosed with an extremely rare and degenerative disease that she fought courageously, with her devoted family by her side, until the end.

Despite the many difficulties she faced, she met them with grace, and maintained a positive attitude through everything. She never let her disease get her down and through her faith, managed to take great joy out of life. Stacy was an avid sports fan, spending countless hours watching football and golf. The Denver Broncos, Notre Dame, and NDSU, were some of her favorite teams.  She also cherished the time she spent with her family at the lakes and at the farm, particularly during harvest season.Stacy loved people. From early on, she had an ability to make friends with anyone, regardless of age. Children always had a special place in her heart, especially her niece and nephew, who were adored by their “Auntie.” Though she was not able to be a teacher professionally, she taught everyone blessed to have known her about life, love, and laughter.

She will be greatly missed by her parents Ralph and Char Engel; brother, James Engel, Hillsboro; sister, Cheryl (Engel) Carlson, Fargo; niece, Danielle and nephew, Nick Carlson; aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alvin and Vi Thompson; Orville and Verna Wiger and Albert Engel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Stacy’s caregivers for the abundance of care they gave her.

Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Hillsboro Nursing Home.
