Obituary

Sylvia Holm, 90, passed away peacefully July 14, 2019 in her home surrounded by family.

Sylvia was born January 22, 1929 to John and Myrtle (Thompson) Nelson in Shelly, MN. She graduated from Climax High School. Growing up, she spent her time working on the family farm. She married Eugene Holm October 2, 1948 in Shelly, MN and were blessedly together for over 70 years. They later moved to Ada, MN and then Fargo, ND. Sylvia worked at Hornbacher’s for over 30 years. She was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Sylvia was dedicated mother to her boys and all the numerous family that was fortunate to receive her banana bread or other treats. For the last 10 years, Sylvia and Eugene lived and enjoyed making great friends at Eventide, Moorhead. She loved to spend her time with her friends, crocheting, cross stitching, playing cards, and sharing her amazing banana bread. She was a very openhearted and devoted grandmother. Sylvia was always known for her great sense of humor, positive outlook on life and always offered encouragement and support to her kids and grandchildren. She was also known for her straight forward and honest views on life.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Eugene; sons, Jerry (Danette), Greg (Emily); grandchildren, Jeremy (Bavani) Holm, Issac Odegard, Katherine Holm, Josh (Jenna) Holm, Noah Pederson; and siblings, Orville (Renee), Sharon (Dick) Thyse.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, John (Mavis) Nelson, Delone (Harold) O’Brien, and Vernon (Donna) Nelson.

A special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Eventide Staff.

Our sympathies to you, Jerry and Greg, and to your families. Your parents were such a blessing to my parents, Harold and Alma. They were there to help them no matter where or when needed. Please know that our prayers are with you at this sad time.

Was so shocked and sad to read of Sylvia’s passing, as I had just seen her in May, looking beautiful, as always. Please know my heart is with you. Wishing I could see you family this weekend but am out of town until Sunday night.
Sylvia always lit up the room and I know she will be soo missed by her family💕

So sorry for your loss. I have some fond memories of Aunt Sylvia & your family. I know my dad has retained some great memories too, although his recent memories are basically gone. I haven’t found the heart to tell him yet about Sylvia’s passing. I know it will hurt him & in 5 minutes he won’t remember. I’ll try to find a the right time. Please know our thoughts are with you.
