Thomas A. Deutsch, 90, Fargo, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Rosewood on Broadway.
Tom was born to Joseph and Julia (Doherty) Deutsch on January 19, 1919 in Fargo, ND. He attended St. Phillips Grade School in Bemidji, MN, and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1937. Tom served as a crew chief on P47s in the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre during World War II from 1942-45. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Distinguished Service Medal. After the war he returned to Bemidji, and later moved to Fargo. He married Roberta Ann Ridley August 5, 1946 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo. Tom and Bert were charter members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Tom founded Deutsch?s Office Equipment in 1950.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, DAV, Eagles, Elks, and Catholic War Veterans.
He is survived by his sons, Tad (Paulette) Deutsch, Centennial, CO; Jim (Patty) Deutsch, Fargo; Mike (Maggie) Deutsch, Fargo; Chuck Deutsch, Fargo; Bob (Connie) Deutsch, Fargo; and Bill (Becky) Deutsch, Grand Forks, ND; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brother, Al Deutsch, Burkburnett, Texas; and his sisters, Mary (Mrs. Tom) Harty, Plymouth, MN, and Ann (Mrs. Dan) Murphy, Moorhead, MN
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (2008); his parents, Joseph and Julia (Doherty) Deutsch; his brothers, Larry, Joe, and JohnDeutsch; his sisters, Sister Benita Deutsch, OSB, Julie Waugh, and Therese Thacker; and his grandchildren, Corey and Daniel Deutsch, sons of Jim and Patty, and Tommy Deutsch, son of Mike and Maggie.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Boulger Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and one hour before the funeral in the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross North Cemetery.
