Thomas Hlavaty, Sr., 90, Fargo, ND died on February 26, 2008 at MeritCare Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Thomas was born on December 15, 1917, the son of George and Elizabeth Hlavaty in Shamokin, PA. He attended school in Shamokin and enlisted in the Army in 1935. Upon his discharge in 1937, he was employed at the Perry Point VA Hospital, MD. In 1939 he began working at Aberdeen, MD Proving Ground in Development and Proof Services, Aberdeen, MD. He was united in marriage on June 20, 1942 to Rose Mary Yaskievich in Havre de Grace, MD. He was drafted in the Army and sent overseas. He was discharged in 1946. He retired from A.P.G. in 1969.
After retirement, they moved to Florida and then to Fargo in 1972. He was employed with the North Dakota Highway Department for several years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in West Fargo and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
He is survived by his wife: Rose Mary; son: Thomas Jr. (Barbara) Hlavaty; and grandson: Nicholas (Antje) Hlavaty, Bavaria, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the church.
Funeral: 10:00 am on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo, ND.
Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery North, Fargo, ND.
