Verle Muir

Verle Lorraine (Mahlum) Muir, age 100, died on September 19th, 2014 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home under their care, Hospice, and her loving family.
Verle was born May 20th, 1914 in Grand Forks, ND to Carl and Clara Mahlum. She attended and graduated from Grand Forks High School. Verle worked as a carhop and later Manager of The Barrel (now known as the Kegs) in Grand Forks. In 1937 she was united in marriage to Clyde Muir of Gilby, ND. They had a daughter, Marlene and a son, Richard. For a brief time they lived in Grand Forks, then moved to Fargo. In 1947 they settled in Hillsboro where they owned and operated a Case dealership. They were married 70 years until Clyde’s death in 2007.
Verle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved to bake cinnamon rolls, knit and take care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a caretaker for Clyde for years prior to his death in 2007. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for over 70 years where she was a member of Ladies Aid, Circle as well as a Sunday School Teacher. Verle was also a Cub Scout Leader. She loved her 4 grandchildren, Robert, Kristen, Susan and Richard and 11 great grandchildren dearly. One year ago she became a great great grandmother to Levi Muir Rinker. She was very pleased to have Levi Muir be her namesake. Family was a major part of Verle’s life. They were most important to her.
She is survived by her daughter Marlene (Roger) Diehl of Hillsboro; Grandchildren Robert (Kendra) Diehl, Edina, MN; Kristen (Steve) Diehl-Crowell, Plymouth, MN; Susan (Pete) Larson, Shakopee, MN; Richard (Michele) Diehl, Hillsboro, ND; Great grandchildren, Caila (Dave) Rinker, Tom (Kate) Diehl, Mitch Diehl; Dylan and Tyler Diehl Smith; Simon, Jacob, Zach and Abby Larson; McKenzy and Madison Diehl; Samantha Kelly; Great Great grandchild, Levi Muir Rinker; several nieces and nephews as well as a very very special friend, Orville Thorson. Verle was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; son, Richard; parents, brother Earle and sister in law, Ruth.
Verle’s family would like to thank the Dr’s and staff at the Hillsboro Medical Center and Hospice for their loving care and special attention.
Memorials preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Lafayette ColoradoMrs Muir was her name always to me, and looking at her picture today, she is what I remember, how did she do that? Even when angry, upset at the teenage girls always in her life, she managed to smile a bit, just a bit, and we knew we were OK. The family she leaves behind are a testimony to her, a good one. I will miss her on visits back home.

Marlene, Roger, and Grandchildren, Your mom, and Grandmother Verle was a wonderful person. She was such a pretty lady. Verle enjoyed her neighbors and had so much fun with them. You Diehl Grandchildren were blessed with remakable Grandparents. They were great role models for all of us. God Bless you all.
