Virgil Dale Gehring, 78, Fargo, ND, died Monday, September 11, 2006 in his home. Virgil Gehring was born May 19, 1928 in Seattle, Washington. He moved with his family to Washburn, ND where he grew up and graduated from high school. He graduated from Minot State and later earned a Masters degree. Virgil and Arlene C. Lind were married April 4, 1951. He served in the Army with the paratroops and was stationed in Japan after World War II and served in the Army Guard during the Korean War. The couple lived in Alabama. After his military service, the couple moved to Minot, ND where he taught school at Berthold, ND where he served as principal of the school, and to Williston, ND where he taught business at the University of North Dakota branch from 1961-1964. He worked for the State University System in Bismarck, ND from 1965-1966. They moved to Fargo in 1967 where he was Associate Dean of Continuing Education at NDSU, retiring in 1984. After retiring, they moved to a small farm north of Detroit Lakes, MN. They moved back to Fargo in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, John and Thomas, both Fargo; four brothers, Delton of Bettendorf, IA, Eloy (Cornelia) of Rochelle, IL, William (Gloria) of Hazen, ND, and Robert (Caroline) of Rockwell, Texas.
