Wanda Engel

wanda engel

Wanda Distler Engel, 65, Fargo, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013.  She was born in Paducah, KY to Joseph Henry and Nelly May (Walker) Distler.  Her family moved to Plymouth, Michigan just after she started the first grade.  She graduated from Plymouth High School and went to the University of Michigan where she obtained her Masters in Social Work.  After working as a social worker for several years she retired to become a full time mother.  She was a supportive and encouraging mother and grandmother.

As an avid traveler she researched thoroughly and enthusiastically.  She encouraged everyone to participate in the trips or activities they would enjoy.  One travel goal which she achieved was to visit every state in the U.S.  She also tried really hard to foster the love of travel for everyone who expressed an interest.  Another focus for her research enthusiasm was genealogy.  She researched both her family and anyone who needed help with their family.

Her spiritual faith in Christian Science was the mainstay of her life.  In times of stress or illness she found the support she needed to accept and move forward toward a better life.  Her belief in prayer was absolute.

A family focused giver, she will be missed each and every day.

She is survived by her daughters, Julia (Ben) Winegar,  Amy (Dana) Mikkelsen; sister, Glenda Distler; grandchildren, Brinn, Shea, Wrehn, and Alexander Winegar; Liam and Ethan Mikkelsen; and many other relatives and friends.

  1. Huntsville AlabamaMy dear cousin, so filled with God’s love and love for God’s creation. As much as you enjoyed seeing every corner of this country, I can only imagine the awe you must feel now that you see the world from Heaven’s perspective.

  2. Lexington NCWe were so saddened to hear of Wanda’s passing. Our deepeth sympathy to all of Wanda’s family.
We were so pleased to have Wanda and Glenda visit with us in Lexington when they were on a trip to our state a few years ago. We just last week received a packet from her that was postmarked to us on Sept 18 with a nice personal note. Of course, she was updating us on her most recent search on the Distler ancestry. Our prayers are for Glenda, and all Wnada’s family in this sad time.

  3. Amy,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sorrowful time.

    In deepest sympathy,
