William J. Martin, 84, Fargo, ND died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Manor Care Health Services, Fargo, ND. William was born on February 8, 1921 in Enderlin, ND to William J. and Ida (Ziegler) Martin. He graduated from Enderlin High School, Enderlin, ND in 1939. He attended Wahpeton Science School, Wahpeton, ND, graduating in 1941 from the sheet metal and air conditioning program. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 through 1945 primarily based in the South Pacific. He began working for the United States Postal Service in 1946 and retired in July of 1978. On September 7, 1957 he married Sarah E. (Betty) Simmons of Eskridge, Kansas, in Los Angeles, CA. They lived in rural South Fargo, ND where they built their home in 1962 and continued to live there until his death. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved tending his big garden until health issues forced him to stop. William fished for over 50 years out of Long Point Resort on Lake of the Woods, MN. Also William co-founded the Retired Postal Worker?s Breakfast which met monthly in Fargo, ND. William is survived by his wife, Sarah, children, Debra L. Martin, Plymouth, MN, William J. (Cynthia) Martin Jr., Belen, NM and Robert J. Martin, Fargo, ND and his sisters; Helen Nolan, Papillion, NB, Lois Stockert, Surprise, AZ, and Catherine (Bernie) Trask, Litchfield Park, AZ. William is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, John and Jerome. The Funeral Services for William will be Thursday, April 14, 2005 at St. Benedict?s Catholic Church, rural Horace, ND at 11:00am. The Prayer Service will be Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Burial will be at the Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin, ND at 2:00pm.
