Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Belding MII met Richard (Rick) 40 years ago and he always had such a smart mind, good heart and potential to do anything he put his mind to. I was talking with friends 3 weeks ago who knew Richard from many years ago, and I was saddened to hear that he has left this earth. I will always have fond memories of the fun we had at Wabasis park canoeing on the lake. My condolences to his family.

  2. I was shocked and saddened by the sudden departure of Richard. He was my boss, he taught me how to program, and he was my friend.

  3. Moorhead MN
Richard will be missed in our hearts. Li and Richard are good friends. We spent many hours looking at all the work they have been doing on there lovely home. Truly a big loss to all.

  4. Fargo ND
I was shocked to see Richard’s obituary in The Forum. I was the System’s Administrator in the CS Dept at ND
SU and got to know Richard there. God’s peace and strength to his family and friends during this awful time.

    Shalom,
    Lynn Thorp (lthorp@i29.net)

If Marty Baumgartner of Boulger’s is helping, please say hi to him. He’s also organist at Peace Lutheran where I know him from.

  5. Fargo ND
I had the honor of performing the wedding ceremony for Richard and Li. I also had the honor of being inducted into the U.P.E. Honor Society by Richard. He was a scholar and a gentleman and I will miss him.

  6. Richard and I were distant cousins who met late in life and fast became friends. He also became an inspiration to me. Richard thank you for being a part of my life. I miss you and probably always will. Thoughts and prayers go out to Li and Long. HUGS!!!!

  7. Richard taught me my first college class in computer science back in 2011/2012. Back then, I was pursuing a degree in physics. It was Richard, through his classes, showed me how computers were powerful and interesting. That there was something magical about being able to create programs that ultimately interacts with another human. It was Richard, who spent his time outside class advising, that ultimately convinced me that a career in software engineering was worthwhile.

Thanks to Richard, I graduated from NDSU in 2015 proudly as one of the first computer science.& physics major students. Thanks to Richard, I have obtained fulfillment and success from the last 8 years working as a software engineer.

I’m sad that perhaps more lives would have been touched if Richard were still around to spread his love for teaching computers and programming. And yet, I take solace in knowing that Richard lived a fulfilling life that he took pride in.

  8. Richard or “Uncle Rick” as I knew him was a very important and special person in my life. He grew up with my mom Fay, they were best friends. Ive known him since birth. He didnt have kids of his own and took a special interest in me in a life changing way. Ever since I was little I was told I was smarter than my age and Uncle Rick picked up and molded me with that. He took me to mesums, the planetarium which I loved, to the beach anywhere I wanted. Help teach me how to drive and bought me quite a few of the Micheal Jackson records that he would play loud as can be so I or my sister Jessica and I could dance around the room. He taught me how to play backgammon and helped me with my math. Later when I couldnt afford to take the ACTs, Uncle Rick paid for it. He taught me so much and gave to me the gift of loving to learn which I still do to this day. You taught me big words and thier meanings. I miss when you would come over with your dog Zeke bring me chocolate milk and putting me upside down so I can walk on the ceiling. I remember in your basement helping me build the planet Saturn for a 3rd grade project which I got an A+ on and you saving it. You gave me the ablity to believe in myself. You gave me so much and I love you soooo much for all that and the love you gave me. You spoiled me and made me feel like I mattered. I just found this and wanted to pay tribute to the most influential person in my life. I have so many memories and so much love and respect for you. I miss you. My heart was crushed when I found this 13 years ago. Today I can finally gather the strength to say goodbye and how much I loved and appreciated you for everything. Because of you I graduated high school, community college with honors and finally my Bachelor’s of Social Work from Ferris State University. I love learning because of you I tell my son about you and I will never ever forget you Uncle Rick. Love your niece, Jennifer Bliss Sheridan, Mi.
