Remembering the Life of Lynn Johnson
Lynn Steven Johnson, 59, Fargo, ND passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, MT, surrounded by family and friends.
Lynn was born on December 27, 1957, to Edwin and Charlotte Johnson in Moorhead, MN. He grew up with his mischievous brothers and sister on a farm northeast of Kindred, ND. Much of their time was spent pranking friends and family. He graduated from Kindred High School in 1977. Lynn enjoyed working with his hands doing construction, and then transitioned to being a locksmith, working for various companies throughout the years. In 1992, he started Lynn Johnson Lock and Key, developing many friendships with employees and customers.
In 1980, Lynn married former-wife Tammy Olmsted. Together they had three children: Steven, Jennifer, and Joseph.
On August 23, 1997, Lynn married Marilyn Lothspeich at Norman Lutheran Church in Kindred, ND. Lynn and Marilyn loved traveling and having friends over to play cards.
Lynn loved spending time with all his friends and family doing various activities. He could regularly be found playing Pinochle and Texas Hold’em. He especially loved hunting with his two boys, and watching his daughter play softball. He created his own vocabulary and made nicknames for everyone, whether they knew it or not! His grandchildren called him ‘Papa Lynn’ and would climb all over him every chance they got. According to them, he always gave the good candy!
He was a member of Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) and Safe and Vault Technicians Association (SAVTA).
Lynn is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Fargo, ND; son Steven (Lawrele), Bismarck, ND, daughter Jennifer, West Fargo, ND, and son Joseph (Christine), Davenport, ND; grandchildren Elias and Emelia, Bismarck, ND; Andraya and Evalynn, Davenport, ND; Brothers Wayne (Phyllis), Dean (Janet), Gary (Jane), and sister Rita (Drew) Aliperto; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Edwin and Charlotte, and brother Larry.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Boulger Funeral Home, 123 10th St. S. Fargo, ND, 5:00-7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7:00. Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Norman Lutheran Church, 16803 52nd St. S.E. Kindred, ND. Burial will be held following the funeral service at Christiania Cemetery in rural Kindred, ND.

We were sorry to hear of the loss of your husband, father and loved one. We have fond memories of Lynn and fun times we had going back to softball days many years ago. May your fond memories of him help comfort you sorry we are unable to attend the prayer service and funeral as we are in Rochester at Mayo Clinic. please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Very sorry to hear of your loss–
I had the pleasure of playing in the same pool league that Lynn participated in, and always looked forward to playing against his team and against him–he was always very nice, and great to talk to and laugh with.
I enjoyed running into him around town by chance–he always stopped and talked to me for a bit.
It was a joy to have known him.
We are so sorry for your loss! My husband Tom and I were some of Lynn’s friends when we were young adults. He was part of the coaching team for our womens VFW softball team. He was kind, funny and a pretty decent coach. In our little older adult life, he rescued me a few times when I locked my keys in my car! The last time I saw him was in Ellendale when he was working on the new lock system for the school. He was always enjoyable to talk with him and get caught up on life events! He will be missed.
Sorry for your loss. Lynn was a great guy and I’ll always remember the fun I had working for him.

Loss is like an earthquake. The first one hits you and the world falls apart. Even after you put the world back together there are aftershocks, and you never really know when those will come. Hold tight to the fact that friends and family will help put together the pieces. Your strength will be tested but know that when you are weak the rest of us will be your strength. To All of Lynn’s Family – You are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of transition. Lynn will be remembered as fun loving with a great giggle when something struck him as funny. Many great memories of pranks we “girls” pulled on him when he was one of our softball coaches.
I also graduated from KHS with Lynn in ’77. Like many others, Lynn “rescued” my family members and me several times. May your many memories of Lynn help to sustain you at this difficult time.

I’m so sorry to hear about the unexpected loss of Lynn. I know he will be truly missed as he was both a terrific husband, father, and friend.

Am so saddened to hear of Lynns untimely death. I will never forget all the fun having him coach us rowdy bunch of female softball players. He will be missed.
I will be out of state and not able to attend but wanted the family to know how much they are in my thoughts and prayers. There were very few people I respect as much as Lynn. He was a wonderful person and employer. He will be missed tremendously.
Lynn was an important part of our close knit group at Kindred High School. I have many, many fond memories of our time together. I will always remember his sweet, kind, gentle, funny soul. It breaks my heart to hear of his passing. Condolences to all of his loved ones.

Good man that took the time to help me on his day off. Regret that I didn’t get to know him better. But with what I do know, he had made a customer and friend for life.
As a locksmith and former employee of Lynn, I will always remember his hearty greeting and regaling us with stories of hunting, fishing and life whenever we met. I still have his orange hunting cap with his company logo that he gave me several years ago. My deepest sympathy to Lynn’s wife and family in this time of sorrow and loss.
I worked for Ecolab, next to Lynn’s shop. He was such a great neighbor to have. He always had wild game jerky or salami for me to try.

I was sitting on an airplane yesterday headed for Los Angeles where I am now so saddened that I can’t attend the service. My wife was catching up on this week’s newspapers and grabbed my arm upon reading the news about Lynn – we are stunned! I have known Lynn for over 30 years and worked with him for over eight years while I was at Dakota Safe Company.
We’ve had coffee, breakfast, lunch and drinks countless times and I enjoyed every one of them! Please know that I highly respected your husband and father. I am convinced that Lynn has forgotten more about lock and safe work than many locksmiths and safe technicians will ever know. He was genuine, sincere, down-to-earth and loved and cherished every one of you.
My wife and I are truly saddened by the loss of Lynn. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we offer sincere condolences. May he Rest In Peace at the Lord’s side. Rev. 7:17 & 21:4.

Lynn will be greatly missed by all. he was such a wonderfull and caring person. My prayers are with you and your family .
