Mel Herrmann (85) of Weslaco, Texas passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at Elim Rehab and Care Center in Fargo, ND.
Mel was born July 25, 1934 to Otto and Elsie Herrmann near Kulm, ND. Mel grew up on the family farm near Kulm, ND. Mel attended rural schools and graduated from Kulm High School in 1952. Mel enlisted in the army after graduating serving two years and returned home in 1954. He then went to work at the Farmers Union Station in Kulm, ND. On August 25th 1957 Mel married Darlene Riebhagen in Kulm, ND. They moved to Fargo in 1958.
Mel attended Dakota Business College for two years and graduated with a degree in accounting and finance. Worked for O’Day Equipment for twenty six years after leaving the company he went to work selling cars at Corwin Automotive Group for ten years. Retiring in 1999, Mel and Darlene became winter Texans and in 2010 moved to Weslaco, Texas permanently. Mel loved playing pinochle and he was always in a hurry to get to the hall so he would have a place at the table. He loved playing dice games and pool. He never missed coffee in the morning with his buddies.
Mel is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Monte Herrmann (Mary Kay) and Murry Herrmann (Renee), daughter Melissa Krueger (Steve). Eight grand children Zachary Herrmann (Kristin), Thomas Herrmann, Kyle Herrmann, Michael Herrmann, Jacob Herrmann, Isaac Krueger, Elizabeth Krueger, and Andrew Krueger. One great grandson Jackson Herrmann. Brother Del Herrmann (Joanne), Sister Florence Radke and many nieces and nephews.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents Otto and Elsie Herrmann, an infant grandson Nicholas Ryan Herrmann, sisters Gladys Ost and Alice Blumhardt. Brother in laws Osborn Ost, Reinie Blumhardt and Clifford Radke. Father and Mother in law Otto and Gertrude Riebhagen.
A visitation will be held at 3:00 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Nancy and I send our most sincere condolences to Mel’s family. I have a note for Mel. I remember the times Del and I sat at your parents kitchen table and you told jokes you learn while you were in the Army. They were funny and, well, lets just leave it at good. You were always fun to be around. I wish we could have spent more time together. Lastly, I want to say I didn’t know you had a son named Thomas and for that I am honored. Rest in Piece Mel.
My deepest sympathies to all family and friends. My first memory of Mel was when he carried me to the Kulm grocery store. It was the only time I was that tall and I loved it!!! My prayers to you.
We have so many wonderful memories over the years with mel and Darlene and laughter shared. We are so sorry to here about mel’s passing. Forever in our thoughts.

My thoughts are with you as you make the difficult adjustment to life without Mel. Mel was such a great source of smiles and laughter at family gatherings. He always had a kind word and a slight ‘jab’ for me whenever we would meet. I always looked forward to seeing him. I remember your visits to mom and dad’s house in Kulm with Mel joking with mom and dad and you (Darlene) giggling like a school girl. It was great fun. We will all miss him.
