Yue "Steven" Qian

钱钺先生1960年9月20日出生于中国北京。他和他的姐姐钱锋经历了文革时期的磨难并在钱钺12岁的时候失去了父母双亲。 Dr. Steven Yue Qian was born in Beijing, China on September 20, 1960. He and his older sister, Qian Feng, would overcome a childhood marked by poverty, the calamity of a cultural and political revolution in China, and the painful loss of both parents by the time Steven was 12.  钱钺在经历了童年的贫穷和磨难后并没有放弃追求。他勤奋努力并成功考上了南京大学。1993年，他来到美国求学，并在爱荷华大学取得了博士学位。从1999年到2004年，他在北卡罗莱纳的NIEHS研究中心做博士后。之后，他在北达科他州立大学任教并取得终身制正教授的职称。 Nevertheless, he strove for a better life. Steven worked hard to gain an education and finished his college education at Nanjing University in China. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1993 in order to seek out a better life for his family and to pursue his doctoral degree in Free Radical/Radiation Biology at the University of Iowa. He completed his postdoctoral work between ‪1999-2004 in Pharmacology and Chemistry at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in North Carolina and then moved to North Dakota State University (NDSU) where he became a Full Professor. 钱钺于2019年10月20日于美国德克萨斯州的休斯顿去世。去世的时候他的至亲家人都在他身边。钱钺的夫人姜晓红女士，大女儿钱颖, 小女儿钱静, 还有他的姐姐钱锋以及钱钺的亲朋好友们都将永远把他珍藏心中。钱钺是一个好父亲、好丈夫、好弟弟、好儿子，也是很多人的好朋友。钱钺每天晚上都会为家人做饭，也经常邀请朋友品尝美食。他对朋友非常真诚友好，乐于助人。他最大的爱好有摄影、钓鱼、以及打扑克。他的乒乓球球技出众并乐于教小朋友们打球。他也是Fargo-Moorhead地区乒乓球协会的创始人之一。 Steven passed away on October 20, 2019 in Houston, TX surrounded by those who love him. His memory endures with his family; his wife of 34 years (since 1985) Xiaohong Jiang, his eldest daughter Rebecca Qian, his youngest daughter Jessica Qian, his older sister Qian Feng, and many others. Steven was a loving and kind father, husband, brother, son, and friend. Someone who would cook a meal every night for his family, and often for his friends as well, and take care of everyone- often beyond the degree that he was asked to. Some of his other favorite activities were playing cards, taking photos, and fishing. He was also a meticulous and skilled ping-pong player who always loved to teach and share his passion for ping-pong, even co-founding a nonprofit organization called the Fargo-Moorhead Table Tennis Association. 最值得纪念的是钱钺教授工作上的成就。他在众多的核心期刊上都发表过他的学术成就。他的研究被美国顶级科研基金会资助。直到他生命结束时，他的研究仍在进行。钱钺教授提出并验证了一种具有革命性潜力的癌症治疗方法，他利用癌细胞自身产生的高表达酶（环氧合酶2）把人体内一种亚麻酸转变成能杀死癌细胞的次生代谢产物，从而达到控制癌症生长的效果。他的研究成果已经成功的申请到了美国的专利。在过去的二十几年里，他也致力于把全世界研究自由基方向的中国科学家团结在一起。他在自由基研究方面的成就及领袖作用将被大家所记住并怀念。 His hard-working nature was even more so present in his work and research. His research has been highly recognized in the area of pharmaceutical sciences with numerous academic publications in leading journals and distinguished national research grants. He made an especially significant contribution to our understanding of lipid oxidation in diseases; in 2016 he began research on a new anticancer concept and cancer treatment strategy that he continued working on and receiving grants for until the end of his life. Steven has a pending US patent for the anticancer drug he developed. For the past two decades, Steven was one of the driving forces behind bringing together international Chinese scientists from around the world specializing in free radicals in biology and medicine. His leadership in free radical biology and medicine as well as his generosity and kindness towards people, particularly Chinese, will be remembered. 钱钺于2018年8月被诊断出四期肺癌并开始在休斯顿接受治疗。他在被诊断出癌症后接受了主耶稣成为基督徒。他于2018年11月9日接受了正式的洗礼并和众多教友分享了他的故事。在新的信仰的力量的指引下，他从来没有放弃生的希望并一直坚强的和癌症做着斗争。在身体条件允许的最初几个月，他还坚持游泳，跑步和家人享受积极快乐的时光。他的一生都是在和命运做斗争，从不认输和放弃，他生命中展现出的正能量和积极乐观精神将指引他的家人和朋友们更好的面对未来。 Steven was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in August 2018 and began treatment in Houston. When the situation appeared dire after he was diagnosed with cancer, he found new hope in God and came to a place of deep faith. He was baptized on November 9, 2018 and shared his story with many. With new hope, he fought the cancer for as long as he could with a never-ending, forward-looking outlook and belief that he would live: swimming laps, running his lab, and making his family laugh up until his final weeks. The end of his life therefore reflecting, in many ways, the beginning of it: the tireless pursuit of positive possibility.
