Deborah Kay (Roes) Simonson

Deborah Kay (Roes) Simonson passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Monday, February 24th, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Born November 27, 1952, to Lenore (Jefferson) Freeman and Joe Roes, Deb grew up in Fargo with her sister and best friend, Georgia, graduating from Fargo South High School in 1971. She met her husband, Bernie Simonson, in 1977 while working at Lorny's Bar. The couple married on June 25, 1983 and share four children: Bob Lindblad (Sue), Bernie Simonson (Michelle), Lindsey Simonson, and Lacy Simonson, and seven grand-children.
Deb and Bernie were self-employed, operating Simonson's Wallcovering for 30 years. Deb later went on to pursue a license in massage therapy at Sister Rosalind's School of Massage, where she taught classes and became the school's director upon graduation. She left the school to open up her own massage therapy business, "A Lasting Touch," working alongside her daughter, Lindsey.
Deb was a fun-loving, free-spirited woman who took enjoyment in many pastimes: traveling, tubing down the river, skiing, crafting, scrap-booking, riding her motorcycle, and giving endless time and love to her grandchildren. She was adventurous, from zip-lining in Jamaica to experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes (inedible cookies were almost an art form.) Known as "The Crazy Cat Lady," Deb was an avid animal-lover, adopting several cats and the occasional raccoon at their home on Eagle Lake. She was a nurturing and caring soul, which is why she lit up every room she entered. Friends will remember Deb for her "sass and class" and contagious laughter.
One of Deb's fondest memories was the birth of her youngest sister, Pamela, who precedes her in death.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, March 4th, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center with visitation at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to the ALS foundation and/or the Detroit Lakes Humane Society.
A final note to ALS: You’ll never be as ugly a disease as Deborah was a beautiful woman.
Deb, you were a ray of Sunshine, always pleasant. You will be missed. Love you, RIP.

Bernie, Georgia, and family, Diane and I are so sorry for your loss. Debbie was a one of a kind sweet soul. We sure have so many great memories and fun times shared. Oh Bernie and family, it saddens our hearts to hear about your loss. Deb was not only beautiful on the outside she had that beauty in her heart too. We have such great memories of our days at the dart line and our visit at eagle lake. Deb was in her element at the lake and we enjoyed watching the additions she made and we noticed each time we went by.
Deb, you were always so fun and kind. My heart hurts for your family during this time. I am sending many thoughts and prayers with so much love.
My life was forever changed after meeting Bernie and Deb nearly 40 years ago many great times were had and many memories were made and with all friendships time between visits lengthens as we all have our own paths but I will never forget the paths we were on together ! Uncle Bern and family, I can’t imagine the sorrow that you are going through. Like mom, you wouldn’t wish Deb’s illness on your worst enemy. She had the most beautiful smile and it did light up the room.i know that now you will be able to rest in the comforting arms of God and family . I hope to see you again someday.
