Billy "Bill" Wayne Souter

Billy “Bill” Wayne Souter, 75, from Fargo, ND, passed away on September 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on July 5, 1947 in Garden City, KS; the first of seven children to Ezekiel “Zeke” Souter and Cleo Ruth “Sue” (Makemson) Souter. He started school in St. John, KS and graduated HS in Kingfisher, OK.
Bill followed in his father’s and Uncle Ed Makemson’s footsteps by working in the oil industry for 41 years. He worked for BJ Oil Well Service Company in Enid, Watonga, and Woodward, OK; Houma, LA; Dickinson, ND; Gillette, WY; Brighton, CO; Casper, Rock Springs, WY before returning to ND and residing in Killdeer, ND. Upon returning to Dickinson, ND with BJ Services he began to work for BJ International. Internationally he worked Vietnam, Cameroon, Gabon and then in Nigeria for 9 years and then worked in Kazakhstan until retiring (the first time) in 2008. Then he was off to Minot, ND to work with the startup of PumpCo Services. (Retired the 2nd time). The upstart of his own business of Bill’s Consulting Service (for some reason he didn’t like Patsy’s recommendation of BS Consulting) found him in Pennsylvania and later in Texas when he retired yet again. He and Patsy resided in Minot at the beginning of his business but after some serious campaigning from daughter #2 they moved to Fargo, ND. Not content to truly being retired he was employed by Koetz Trucking part time.
The Souter family was blessed to be a part of church homes wherever Bill’s work took them. Bill enjoyed being a part of the ministry of the church, particularly anything to do with maintenance. In working with the children he became known as Mr. Hunny by a group of 1st grade Sunday School children. He also was involved with AWANA in Minot, ND and in Manning, ND where he was privileged to be a T&T leader for his granddaughter, Amber Kukla. Metropolitan Baptist Church became his final place to serve, serving as a Trustee and major set up guy for all the things Patsy was involved in. He joined Patsy also with Children’s Church. Over the years he had fun with the different small groups he was involved in.
Along with being involved with the church he was also a member of Red River Valley Wood Carvers. He enjoyed keeping up with friends through Facebook. While living in Killdeer and rotating internationally he trained as a First Responder and volunteered with the Killdeer Ambulance Squad. He always kept busy with home improvement projects, whether for others or his own.
Bill married his High School sweetheart, Patsy (Conley) Souter, and began their 57 years of adventures on July 23, 1965. They were blessed with 2 wonderful daughters, Pam (Dean) Kukla, Killdeer, ND and Patty (Tom) Molm, Frontier, ND. fabulous grandchildren Christopher (Samantha) Kukla, Killdeer, ND, Matthew (Kirsten) Kukla, Killdeer, ND, Amber Kukla, Missoula, MT, and Nicholas Molm, Fargo, ND, and the best of all great grandchildren, John and Liam Kukla of Killdeer. Plus the much loved bonus families.
Bill is survived by his siblings; Sharon Souter, Crowder, Ok, Janice Sorrels, Bedford, TX, Lonny (Sharon) Souter, Temple, TX, Kathy Burpo, Royse City, TX, Randy (Robin) Souter, Fairview, OK, Steve Souter, Las Vegas, NV. Many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. One Aunt, Eldoner Brown, Cordova, AL. He was preceeded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Ashley Kukla.
The Souter family would like to thank the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Doctors, Nurses and many that made Bill’s journey possible. And also to the Sanford Hospice for their care of Bill and the family.
