James Paul “Jim” Iverson passed into the loving and open arms of his Heavenly Father on November 23, 2022 at the age of 64 after courageously battling Grade IV Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was diagnosed just a short six months prior on May 24, 2022. Jim was surrounded by his loving family and beautiful bride of 43 years, Kathryn.

Jim was born to Harold W. Iverson and Arline O. Tatley on July 18, 1958 in Fargo, ND. He attended grade school, junior high, and senior high school in Moorhead, MN.

Jim married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Lea Huls in 1979. They made their home in Moorhead where they raised their family as God blessed them with two wonderful boys, Paul James and Mark James; and God added to that blessing with their chosen spouses and the arrival of their grandchild. Jim was very active in his children and grandchild’s lives and known by all as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Jim was a man of many talents and hobbies. His first job right out of high school was with Dakota Safe Company as a safe and vault technician. He then began working in sales; over the next 15-years he held various positions at different companies, working his way up to sales management and earning multiple awards along the way. Jim loved being a sales manager because of his passion for helping sales representatives become more than they are and helping them learn the skills necessary to achieve their goals. A motto Jim lived by was “perfection is impossible, but always strive for excellence.”

Jim loved working with his hands and in 2020, he hung up his suit and tie and walked away from sales and decided to pursue another passion, welding. He went on to earn every certification available for welding. He was working most recently at True North Steel in Fargo, ND. Although the physical demand was high and he came home covered in welding dust every day, he always came home with a smile on his face.

Jim was known for his laughter, sense of humor, and a gift for helping others. He was a spiritual warrior, who brought many to Christ whether by opening their home to college students for bible study or by sharing his moving testimony in front of a congregation. Jim was blessed with an outlook of although this world is broken, a greater promise awaits us at the end. He chose to spend his time here on earth helping many through tough times and to hold onto God’s promise that awaits us at the end. He held close to two verses: Revelation 7:17 and 21:4 that brough him comfort all the way through the end of his battle here on earth. Special thanks given by Jim and entire family to Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care and support during the last two months of Jim’s time here on earth.

He will forever be missed and lovingly remembered always.

Guestbook

  1. Elliott and I are so deeply heartbroken that you’re gone from our Earthly presence, but your strength, love and incredible faith in our Savior gives us comfort in knowing you’re safe and healed. We know we’ll see you again, so in the meantime, we’ll be sharing the “Jim stories” that have always, and will forever warm our hearts. I love you, my dear brother. And Elliott loves you for the incredible role model you’ve been to him since we lost Randy. I hope you two found each other right off, and we truly look forward to seeing you both again. With God’s Love, Blessings, Gratitude and Grace. Your “big sis”—— Bobbie

  2. Iverson family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to get to know Kathy while we were coworkers at Hospice of the Red River Valley. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. I knew Jim back in the neighborhood when we were kids. He was Lynn’s age so he did things with her but every once in a while, he’d allow me to tag along. Then he moved. WE missed having him on the block and at the block picnics. May he rest in God’s grace.

    Condolences to Jim’s family.

    Beatrice (Wirries) Streitz

  4. Through faith we look at death not as a loss but as a separation, for you shall be together again.
    Sincerely,
    Marti J

  5. Kathy, Paul, & Mark-

So sorry to hear to hear of your loss…please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

May you find comfort in all the wonderful memories you shared.

    John & Linda Tupa

  6. Dear Iverson Family,

Jim was our sales manager at Dacotah Paper a few years back and I always enjoyed our conversations at meetings and over the phone. He was always upbeat, positive and willing to help when you needed him. God has a plan, and sometimes it leaves us wondering why? Please take comfort in knowing where Jim is now, and who he is with, and that you will be reunited again some day. My condolences to all of his family and friends.

  7. I have been blessed to be Jim’s neighbor the past 14 years. Every time I drove by and he was outside working (which seemed like everyday) there was always a wave and a big smile. My condolences to the family, may Jim’s memory live on in each of you.

  8. It was a pleasure getting to know Jim in the last few months that he was with us. May you feels the loving and caring hand of Jesus as you grieve. We know that we will get to see him again soon! Our greatest condolences to the Iverson Family, from the entire Valley Vital Medicine crew.

  9. That was a beautiful service today! My sympathies on your loss.

I got to know Jim pheasant hunting, and I attached a photo in the timeline from 2019. (Jim’s in the middle, Steve Asp on the right, Dan Danielson between Steve & Jim, and I’m on the left next to my son John.) The connection is that I’m married to Steve Asp’s sister. I also had the chance to hunt with Paul and Mark and I can tell you Jim enjoyed every minute of being out there with his sons.

    He was a good man!

  10. Dear Bobbie and Elliot, my deepest sympathies and condolences on the loss of your dear brother and uncle. May God Bless His Soul and May God Bless you and the whole Iverson Family. Love Judy and Karina

    • Thank you both, Judy & Karina. I just saw this (2/4/23) & I’m so deeply sorry about your brother/uncle Walter, too. Sweet Jeri R.
