Jackie "Jack" Parr

jackie

April 8, 1960 ~ August 31, 2023

Born in: Hillsboro, North Dakota
Resided in: Horace , North Dakota

Jackie “Jack” Steven Parr passed away in Hospice care at home on Thursday August 31st, 2023 after years of battling melanoma; he didn’t want to deal with another North Dakota winter. Jack was born April 8th, 1960 in Hillsboro, ND to Melvin and Betty(Beyers) Parr. He attended Moorhead High and built his first house at 16.

Jack married his wife Michelle Montplaisir on July 26th, 1986 at St. Mary’s in Fargo. This was the only noted time he willingly attended church. Jack and Michelle spent many years renovating and building homes in the area. Jack was born to be a dad and in 1994 he and Michelle welcomed their only child Chenelle Parr. He always made sure his loved ones knew how much he loved them and was always there if you needed him.

Jack enjoyed golfing with his buddies, pheasant hunting with his Vizsla, Babe, and catching walleye. He enjoyed camping with family and complaining about how crappy the bed in the camper was. He was self-employed as a home builder and contractor; Jack didn’t like being micromanaged, but he could tell you a few things you could improve on. A great cook, Jack enjoyed cooking as much as he loved eating.

Jack enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with his wife, getting his seafood fix and making new friends on the golf course. In the nicer months in North Dakota, you could catch Jack going for a cruise in his little red ragtop; check out those curls.

Jack is survived by his wife, Michelle Montplaisir, Horace, ND and daughter Chenelle Parr(Dylon Zimney), Horace, ND. His mother, Betty Parr, Watertown, SD. Sisters Debbie(Shannon) Schock, Watertown, SD, Cindy(Dale) Gifford, Scottsdale, AZ. and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father Melvin Parr and sister Wendy Parr.

Unsurprisingly, Jack did not want a funeral. Instead, please join us for a get together to toast Jack and share memories with his loved ones on Saturday, September 9th from noon to 2 pm at 5504 West Ponderosa Dr, Horace, ND. If you’d like to sit, make sure to bring a chair.

Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

  1. To my baby brother,
No matter where it took us in life I can tell you “I always loved you”. We may have not talked often or got together as much as we liked but I never forgot you were my brother. I am so thankful for the last two years that I was given to enjoy our talks and visits. You taught me so much. I see things in a different light. I know you are at peace and in comfort now. I miss and love you more than you’ll ever know. I truly think you knew how much love I have for you. You will forever be in my thoughts and heart. I miss you so much! I know some day I’ll see you again. Thank you for giving us Michelle and Chenelle.

    Love your older sister,
    Cindy

  2. We love you Jack. I don’t have many words right now because this doesn’t seem real yet, but I just love you. We didn’t get to start our food truck you wanted, there were many adventures and life stories we didn’t get to experience yet. We don’t get to choose when it’s time but you’re with grandpa now and that gives a bit of peace. Please look over everyone from your shining star and we will look after everyone from here. Until I see you again. I love you Uncle Jack.

  3. Michelle & Chenelle, thoughts & prayers to you both. I was blessed to know & become great friends w your husband/dad. Always loved playing golf w him & our golf crew will miss him dearly. We will hold onto the many memories & the laughs…as there were many. Play well in Heaven Jack, see you on the course again someday.

  4. That was so nice of Jack to take Gerald for a ride in his little red convertible only a month ago. We always enjoyed our visits with him. He will be missed by all of us. Until we meet again, Myrna & Gerald

  5. Michelle – To a wonderful co-worker. I am so sorry for your Loss. You and Chenelle are in my thoughts and prayers. Cherish the memories!!
