Betty McBeain

Betty McBeain, age 76, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Rooker was born on September 21, 1948, the daughter of LeRoy Sr. and Clara (Balliet) Rooker. Betty and her family farmed in the Hazelton area until 1972. Her parents moved into Temvik, and at that time, Betty moved to Fargo, ND, where she was united in marriage to Gary McBeain on June 24,1974. Betty and Gary had five children – Clifford McBeain of Fargo; Betty (Arthur) Haugan of Moorhead, MN; Clara (Corey Becker) Easley of Fargo; John (Kari Flock) McBeain of Fargo; and Mary (Jwad) Alshubbary of Fargo.

Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her siblings – Rose Hettich of Hazelton, ND; Kathryn (Roger) Skachenko of Bismarck; Alice Thompson of Mandan, ND; LeRoy Rooker Jr. of Hazelton; Richard Rooker, Harold Rooker, and Diane Rooker, all from Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty loved the outdoors, gardening, and spending time with her family – especially having her coffee at Randy’s Restaurant. Betty attended rural school up to the 8th grade. Then she helped her family on the farm. Later in life, Betty received her GED in May of 1993. She was a “stay at home mom” and “housewife.” Betty also enjoyed volunteering at the Newlife Center and Dakota Boys Ranch. Later, Betty worked as a housekeeper at Motel 6 until she got osteoporosis, but she still continued her volunteer with Dakota Boys Ranch. On July 29, 2008, she lost her husband from lung cancer. Then, in 2022, Betty ended up with colon cancer with dementia. On June 17th, 2023, she entered Bethany retirement living in a skilled nursing home.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and LeRoy Rooker Sr.; two sisters – Adelaide Rooker in 1962 and Mary Mitchell in 1991; her brother, Roger Rooker in 2021, and her husband, Gary McBeain in 2008.

A Funeral Service will be held 10 AM Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held at Springvale Cemetery in Fargo. A luncheon will be held at the residence of Clara Easley at 2309 9 1/2 Street North in Fargo – following the burial service.
