LaVonne Bernadine Jordheim, 92, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 11 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, North Dakota.

The only child of Clifford and Ellen Nelson, LaVonne was born in Wahpeton, ND on August 13, 1932. She attended school in Colfax, Antelope, and Walcott, graduating from Walcott High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked in the office of Armour and Company in West Fargo.

LaVonne married Harold Jordheim on May 3, 1952 at Walcott Lutheran Church. They raised their family and farmed in Viking Township near Walcott until 1996 when they retired from farming and moved to Fargo. With a heart dedicated to caring for others, LaVonne began work at Bethany Home Care, providing support and companionship to Bethany residents until her retirement at the age of 80. She was beloved by the residents to whom she provided assistance, and she cared for each as if they were a dear friend or member of her own family. A person of deep faith, LaVonne was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo. Her relationships with her family and many friends brought joy to her life each day.

LaVonne is survived by her four children: son Lynn (Mary), son Steven (Suzanne), daughter Lorilee (Paul), and daughter Renee (Paul), nine grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Sandra, her parents, and parents-in-law.

LaVonne’s family expresses its deep gratitude to the pastors, staff, and Stephen Ministers of Hope Lutheran Church for years of spiritual support to LaVonne and her family. The family also wishes to thank the compassionate, dedicated, and supremely skilled nursing staff, therapists, and medical team of Bethany Retirement Living for the care they provided LaVonne in the final weeks of her earthly life.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Dear Lynn, Steven, Lorilee, Renee and Families,
This winter, Lavonne and I talked about medical decision making. We shared that as believers
in Jesus Christ we win whether we remain on this earth or go to our Heavenly Home.
A song of comfort , “Mansion Over the Hilltop”. From John 14: 2-3. Praying that the Good Lord
strengthen each of you—your Mother loved you dearly.

  2. Lynn and family, my sincere sympathy on the loss of your Mom and grandmother. I so enjoyed my clinic visits with both your parents. I will never forget their kindness when I retired.

  3. LaVonne and Harold used to come to my desk at Hope Lutheran quite often just to talk. We would have many good laughs together. It was always fun to see them park out in the circle and come in with big smiles on their faces. What a joy it was to spend time with them.
I visited them at their home a few times so my grandsons could see the trains that were everywhere in the basement! LaVonne was always so hospitable and offered us a treat each time. She was so warm and welcoming and very genuinely a happy person that spread happiness to all.

  4. Uncle Harold and Aunt LaVonne, were two of my favorite people. I have many wonderful memories of both of them while growing up. I remember riding in the backseat of the car and seeing Uncle Harold and LaVonne always sitting right next to each other. Always Kind, loving, caring, to anyone who had the great pleasure of meeting them. They are beautiful souls sitting next to each other in Heaven

  5. I will always cherish the times I spent on Uncle Harold and Aunt LaVonne’s farm. I can still hear LaVonne’s voice and her laugh, and cannot picture her face without a smile on it. No matter what mischief Renee and I got in, it seems that nothing took away her smile. I always felt so much joy and so much love in their house. Aunt LaVonne was beautiful both inside and out. Harold and LaVonne were two halves of the same heart and I can see them smiling together in heaven right now. Lynn, Steve, Lorilee and Renee, I am so sorry for your loss and my heart is breaking for you.
